Every now and then as a techno early adopter the tendency is to jump in at the launch of a new product and sometimes the first iterations are just about inline with expectations, but here are times when the product falls woefully short of what it promises to deliver. I finally pulled the trigger this week and thought I’d try the Solidcom C1 for my four man live-streaming team, but can’t tell you how Uber pumped my team are to use it. This product not only met our expectations but also blew us away and already we can see how having the Solidcom C1 Headset has already vastly improved not only helped our production quality but has also improved production Comms and value also. Prior to these headsets we tried long range walkie talkies but although the range was good, had to depend on ‘press to talk’ technology and if two of your team are trying to talk at the same time, forget it. With this set we can have 2 / 3 / 4 people in the same conversation and we can all hear each other when needed. I purchased my set through official Hollyland Store on Amazon and was amazed that they delivered literally the next day. The packaging and build quality is solid. With everything supplied in a padded branded case which contains everything you need to sustain a full day shoot. In the bag were 4 individual headsets each in their own carry around slip case . (One master headset and three additional coms headsets) The package is also supplied with two sets of batteries for each headset (8 in total), Two sets of ear pads for each headset (one larger padded and one smaller) as well as a small wind jammer for each mic. Operation was very simple with a simple talk to communicate with the mic boom down and to mute move the mic boom up and out of the way. We have yet to change the batteries on a full day’s shoot. The audio quality and volume levels are near Hi-Fi quality and one surprise benefit I didn’t appreciate until we started using the set was that as everything is self contained in the headset, there are no trailing wires which you have to plug in and get snagged in your daily operational moving to and forth. With regards to range we do a lot of services which necitate the need to speak to the drone operator based out side what is usually a traditional brick church building as well as additional roaming camera operators which move from outside to inside and the contact remains constant. I haven’t done a scientific range test but have not experienced any dropout or signal loss under these conditions and from inside to outside the building I would say we can be up to 800 feet away from each other and still able to hear and communicate clearly. One downside if there is any is that you always need the master head set in situ in order for everyone to communicate. I made the mistake of sending two of my team to do some remote filming but hadn’t appreciated that once my headset was switched off they could not speak to each other, but in most situations we are always together as a team so its a minor point. I love the fact that you can also expand the set by adding additional headsets too. So for larger shoots with a larger team we can simply scale up. The customer support from Hollyland has been first class and although I haven’t experienced any problems with this product, found them very responsive when I had an issue with a wireless transmitter I purchased from them previously. As far as value for money is concerned we as a team have benefited from more efficient communications and therefore directions, which makes the finished product is also much better too. Overall if you are looking for a good value comms set for your small to midsize team. I THINK THIS WILL BE VERY HARD TO BEAT!!

We use four and find its almost like you forget you are using them. You just chat away like you were standing next to the others. Just need to ensure the person wearing the master set doesn't wander off or they all disconnect! Made a huge difference to how we work (permanent way gang on a heritage railway) including improving safety. Batteries last a whole day and you get spares. When we had an issue with integrating new ones with an existing pair the supplier were incredibly helpful and provided updated software to resolve the issue. Recommended.

Bought these after searching for reasonably priced Eartec system for production filming work. I have zero cons. Seriously, they worked perfectly straight out of the box. Range was excellent, clarity was amazing. I’d like the option to buy additional ‘slave’ units separately - maybe that is possible already? Basically - I want more! I bought the 3 as it was all I needed, but now that I know they perform so well I would get more to future proof production needs. My camera assistant even bought a set a week later as he was so impressed.

Fantastic system a bit more money yes but worth every penny definitely stick to the 1.9 not the 2.4 ones they are so much more reliable and the latency almost non existent I’m already looking at upgrading the system to more head sets and the base station for use on larger events

Talkback has always been expensive , short lived and confusing to setup. This is the opposite they are one touch with long battery life, great distance and perfect sound. Buy them now!

A great piece of kit used for theatre communication. Clear reception on all headsets and easy to use.

We bought 4 with a master and a hub to use as comes in theatre. The Hubballows you to connect to your in-house comms that are wired. The quality and connection distance across stage and FOH are excellent for the cost and the battery life is very good. If you are going to use them with a hub, just buy individual headsets as if you buy a master headset with a group of headsets, the master headset does not connect to the hub. All in all I would highly recommend them.
