Awesome Hook Remover
I have used and gotten by with the cheaper hook removal tools for years and I upgraded to this one because I have bent up my other sets a few times now. This one will definitely hold up without any issues for years to come. I use them on big catfish.

MUST HAVE
If you are a serious fisherman, you must have one of these. I had watched several mates on charter boats use this type of dehooker and it appeared effortless for them to remove a hook from fish. I just chalked it up to experience. One day perusing Amazon I found these and decided what the heck and purchased one. I was pleasantly surprised and somewhat amazed at how easy to use and how quick to remove a hook. I had been one to let my son remove hooks from fish with the pliers in the past, pain. Now I actually look forward to removing hooks. Liked it so much I purchased another for my son. Great piece of work!

3 year review
I'm not one to review products often. But, this thing is still as good as new after 3+ years of freshwater and saltwater use. I've never done anything besides rinse it off occasionally.I'd recommend this to anyone who abuses their equipment, and still wants it to work. If I ever lose it, or break it, I'll buy it again 100%.

Quality materials. Built solid. Design could be better.
The materials and welds are excellent. Heavy-gauge stainless tubing and a strong internal spring. If taken care of, you would expect to get years of use out of a fine tool like this. Unfortunately, as another reviewer pointed out, there is a binding issue that appears to be related to the T-shaped handle design. The handle is secured to the internal parts with a pin at the intersection of the "T" and when you squeeze the handle, it naturally wants to pivot on that pin as it slides back along the main, inner tube. Thus, the inner edges of the "T" scrape against the outer surface of the tube. Additionally, as the handle torques it also seems to cause some binding within the internal spring assembly, as well.I really want to make this thing work properly, because I haven't been able to find anything else out there that is made entirely of stainless steel. Of course, if you grip the "T" handle up high, near the main tube, it helps minimize the pivot effect, but due to that great spring they used this technique is quite uncomfortable and makes it difficult to operate the tool properly. I finally decided to see if I could fix the problem with some white grease and elbow grease. I lubed the "T" handle where it was visibly scraping and just forced the mechanism back and forth about three or four hundred cycles, hoping to deburr and loosen the tightest areas a bit. Wiping off the dirty grease confirmed a lot of metal had been shaved off, and eventually squeezing the tool with one hand showed this effort payed off quite a bit. I debated on whether to lube the inner parts for fear of making it harder to dry the tool out after fishing, but ultimately decided the inner scraping needed to be addressed, too. Thus, I also injected white grease into the nose and worked it down into the spring and linkage until the scraping sounds went away. If you decide to try this, I suggest you consider pressurized white reel grease spray. I found that worked really well.Again, this seems like it will be a great fishing tool, especially if it loosens up a bit as time goes on. I would say, sure, go ahead and buy one of these if you want something durable and are willing to put in a little effort to make it work better. Maybe I just got one that fit tighter than others, but honestly, this looks more like a design shortcoming than a build issue-- the craftsmanship is very nice. Hope this helps you make your choice. I'll update later if anything changes.

Best dehooker
This dehooker works great and is solid. It's made from stainless steel. I have no idea where the bad reviews came from that refer to binding or broken tools. Doesn't seem possible. I doubt I could break it if I beat it with a hammer. It might bend but no way it's going to break. I also don't see what would cause it to bind. Don't waste your money on a plastic one. This thing will last forever.

How the heck do you use it properly?
Yes, it is Sturdy. Yes, it's not particularly smooth operating, as many others have noted, but I don't think that's a big deal. My beef is there are no instructions, no videos, nothing on their web site, no anything about how to use it properly. Maybe it's obvious if you've been fishing for 30 years, or are a kid less than 12, but I'd like some guidance. Minus a star for that omission.

Works great
Lots of reviews saying that you cannot take this apart and clean it. That's absolutely wrong. Just pop out the metal pin in the handle and it will come apart for easy cleaning. I put rod grease in and on mine and it works great.
