Previously bought from another company. The wood on those were not sturdy nor very smooth. These are extremely sturdy and very smooth. Unless I find another company that makes them as well, I will definitely buy from this company again.

I purchased 8 sets for a family vacation, so each family could paint a set as a keepsake/fun memory.We had so much fun! They take paint well, open and close great... only 1 (one main one in one set of the dolls) stopped closing all the way after I painted all sides, including inside. I imagine I can sand it down and it'll close.They're still sitting as a happy reminder of our beach trip!

These are wooden Nesting Dolls that are plain, no design so that you can customize them yourself! The fit of the top piece to the bottom is very tight and some of them I couldn't open without fear of breaking them. Maybe make sure they fit snug and not tight. Once you get them open maybe yse a bit of 4000 grade sand paper on the lip or inside (but just a little bit so they are snug and not tight). If you plane to paint them make sure you wear white cotton gloves so that the oil from your hands doesn't cause you problems when you got to paint them. These are a great buy! The possibilities are endless! ;)

For the most part of what is smooth but some parts of the carving were not finished very well and left shaving sticking out.There is not an even distribution going down in size - after I open to the first two dolls, The third one was very hard to open and it was hard to get the fourth doll out of it because it was so tight. However the first doll is significantly bigger than the second and came off a little bit too easy.

Very high quality wood that my daughter enjoyed painting. It's a great fun activity for kids to learn about Russian culture.

They barely fit together, they have to be FORCED in order to put them together, additionally one of them came cracked. Highly disappointed and would not recommend

The media could not be loaded. I absolutely loved these Koogel Plain Nesting Dolls! I bought them to make a custom matryoshka doll for my daughter, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The wood is smooth and sturdy, and the acrylic paint I used adhered beautifully without any wear. This was such a fun project, and I’m so happy with how it turned out.
