Sparks and smoke
Bought this in the hope that it was expensive that I was buying a quality item, how wrong I was, connected the dead battery then plugged it in switched it on and it sparked like crazy, the unit screen went black and the whole thing is now useless it lasted under a minute before an intense smell of burning filled the room and there was a considerable amount of smoke coming out of the charger. Extremely concerned over the safety of this particular unit, I have handed it over to trading standards to check out

Potentially dangerous. Created sparks when connected to the LiFePo4 battery. Not "smart" at all.
It's cheap. It works, but be careful, as incorrect use could cause a fire due to sparks.Shame really, as with a little more effort regarding safety, it could have been excellent value for money. When I first used the charger, I connected to the (LiFePo4) battery after powering up the unit, and got big SPARKS. It even melted part of the top of terminal screw. Wow! In retrospect the INADEQUATE manual shows that the battery should be conencted before the charger is powered on at the mains, but this is NOT made clear. There is NO warning of sparking if the connection to the battery is made with the unit powered on. For a charger capable of supplying 20A and called "smart" in it's title, sparking should be impossible. My "Ring" brand chargers have this extra "smart"ness, so it is possible to detect this condition. IMO it's just sloppy design.Once I actually got it to charge, I had no faith in the accuracy of the percentage display. I had been charging for several hours and from experience knew that the battery would be well over half full. I switched off the charger and re-started later in the day. The battery charged percentage display read only 40% which didn't seem right. I disconnected and measured the battery voltage with a multimeter. It read 13.4V which according to the battery leaflet means 99% full. Also just an observation. The croc clip leads to the battery seem quite thin and flexible, and don't inspire confidence for carrying 20A.I did look at the alternative LiFePo4 chargers available on Amazon, but even for more money, nothing really stood out.
