Charming and delightful read!
After being immersed in the Lancaster and Jonquil families' stories for years, this book was so fun to see more of them as side characters. I loved it! And I love the new characters that were introduced.Ellie and Newton are just darling. They are two fabulous characters. They're kind of the quiet, underdogs in their families. Told what to do and not feeling like their desires and hopes are acceptable. But I loved how they found ways for themselves. And I especially love that Ellie learned to trust her heart and to not believe what her family said to her.I love Sarah M. Eden's writing. Her characters shine. Their struggles and sorrows and hopes and dreams. Their growth. Their friendships (I really love the interconnections and friendships that are throughout her books and series). Their joy. Their humor. Their love stories. I just love it all! There were some fun little tidbits of explanation scattered throughout that referenced something that had happened to characters from previous books. I had some good chuckles over one of those. I know that's vague and especially not helpful if you haven't read any of this author's books. But I just can't spoil it. Whether you've read her books or not, you could read this as a stand alone novel. And a bonus to that, you'll be introduced to some characters that you'll just love and want to know their stories. You'll possibly be drawn into them like I was all those years ago. Sarah M. Eden has a fan for life in this reader.Sit back and enjoy a charming and delightful story filled with friends and family and intrigue and plans that go awry. Watch out for the sweet love story as well. *Happy Sigh*Content: Clean. One character deals with emotional abuse from her family. My own personal copy.Happy Reading!!!

Lovely sweet, period romance
Romance, sweet, period; series but stand alone readEllie is criticized and downtrodden by her family as they seek an advantageous match for her sister. She and her friend Artemis concoct a connection to Newton, a friend of Artemis’s brother Charlie. Newton is similarly disparaged and oppressed by his family. Both Artemis and Charlie help Ellie and newton defend, retaliate and on occasion, retreat from these personal attacks and make a case for a HEA with themselves and choice for their future together.Perfect, lovely, fall and well told with dramatic suspense, a lovely romance.

I Found This Story to Be OUTSTANDING! Highly Recommend!!!
I admit wholeheartedly that I purchased The Best-Laid Plans by Sarah M. Eden because of its beautiful cover. It draws the reader in and makes her want to know the young woman’s story. I am so glad I purchased a copy of this novel because I found it to be quite an outstanding escape. It’s only a little more than 100 pages, but The Best-Laid Plans packs quite the punch! I thoroughly enjoyed the narrative and hated those moments when I had to put the book down (stinkin’ chores!). I found the cast of characters to be well crafted; Artemis and Ellie are my favorites. I love how their acquaintance grows quickly and deeply into a best friendship, and I found they made quite a team. Newton is an adorable hero and I appreciate his character growth over the course of the story. He does make an excellent beau for Ellie! Ellie’s parents and older sister are absolutely awful humans — so self-focused and mean — and I loved how Ellie is able to escape them. It is a sad fact that more often than not, it seems, humans have to redefine what family looks like because biological families can be so hurtful and disappointing. I have never been as happy for a fictional character to escape her home life as I was for Ellie. Ellie is a great character and I loved her growth. She goes from a cowed young woman to one who is more than capable of standing on her own two feet. And, lastly, I loved the sweet romance that grows between Ellie and Newton. It was a lot of fun watching the two figure out that their “fake” relationship is actually quite more. The Best-Laid Plans is a highly engaging novella I recommend ardently. If you love a good Regency Romance then The Best-Laid Plans is the book for you!I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on January 1, 2021, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Loved it.
I have not met a book by Sarah M Eden that I haven’t liked, and this was no exception. Sarah’s perspective on the regency era is delightful, the characters are well developed and interesting. It can be read as a stand alone, but also has many characters that appear in other books in her Lancaster and Jonquil family series.
