Q: One amazon reviewer answered that this works at 3.3 v. that might not be true. the specification says "operating voltage 4.5v to 24v." is this true?

1. To clarify operating voltage, do not exceed 5V. This board does not have a voltage regulator and will be permanently damaged at 24V. 2. In terms of operating voltage, I have tested down to 2.5V with no issue.

Q: what is the maximum speed of this sensor? will they be able to detect at 20kHz for a 20k rpm motor?

According to the photo, the chip is an Allegro 3144. This chip has rise and fall times less than a microsecond so it should be fast enough for your application. If for some reason the items you receive are based on some other chip, then it may be too slow. Some of hall effect sensors have total rise/fall times greater than 30 msecs, which would not work for you.

Q: How are these wired? There are no clear labels on the board (unless you count 'S' and '-')? What are the three pins?

The S pin is the sensor output. The - on the other end is ground and the middle is the 5v in.
