Klein Tools 80093 Cable Tester, VDV LAN Kit with LAN Tester, Pass Thru Crimper, CAT6/CAT5e Plugs and Strain Relief Boots, 5-Piece

The Klein VDV526-100 worked okay for me, except for the one thing I needed the most at the time - it does not tell you if a standard RJ-11 Telephone cable is good or not. At first I thought it was broken, as I tested it on a new telephone cable I'd just bought. But after reading the instructions, twice, I finally really sorted through a couple of lines:"Pass Indicator light... if cable is wired straight through on RJ11 or RJ12"."Note: A Cross-Over Wired cable, RJ45 or RJ12, will flash the MISWIRE and PASS LEDssimultaneously."If you read this carefully, I believe it means that if you have the standard Telephone cable, which is what is known as reverse wired, it does not light Pass Indicator. I had thought originally the 'cross-over wired' note meant it would light Pass and Miswire, but if you read carefully it states "RJ45 or RJ12" - no mention of RJ11.Anyway, mine certainly did not indicate Pass for my new Telephone cable, just OPEN. Making it useless for normal Telephone wires. I returned it and instead bought the more expensive Klein VDV-Scout-Pro-3, which has an LCD screen that shows the actual wiring for RJ11, RJ12, RJ45 (and also coax cable). This works fine for regular Telephone cable, and for a straight through RJ11 cable I created, as it simply shows how the lines match up.

Use this product to conduct Ethernet troubleshooting between switches and plc Ethernet cards to help eliminate whether the cable was faulty or the switch com port when remote racks lose CPU from local. Didn’t need a real elaborate tool just needed something to diagnose problems fast so I could replace part. Works great in that regard.

Works fine but my data cables at work only have 2 pairs inside of them which means this meter always shows an "open" due to the other 2 pairs not being present in my cables. I personally needed a more advanced tester that shows individual wires instead of a general state.

I have to replace my old one, cheap trash that broke, hope this one lives longer

It worked perfectly for what I wanted. Ordered it 8pm on door step at 7am the next morning.

It works. I just wish that it told you what wires are the issue.

I originally had to borrow a tester from IT at work to test an issue I was having in my home network. Wired was working but wireless said there was no internet access.Turned out to be one bad wire to an outdoor access point in a detached garage. I wasted several days before that trying to track down the problem. Took a tester less than 30 minutes.Now that I have this tester for myself. I use it every time before I make new cable runs: which I did recently when upgraded my security camera system.This tester fits my personal needs exactly. I only use 'store' cables and I'm not going to 'fix' a cable, just going to use another one. I just want to know if a cable is good or bad and don't want to spend hundreds of dollars for anything more.

1st day I opened it I found 2 bad cat 5e cable ends with this tester. I cut and re-crimped the cables and my TV and access point are back in business. Works great and very simple to use along with the price is right. Great buy. Thanks

for quick check very good not so good if you need to know what end has failed so you do not need to redo the wrong end so i use this 1st then higher level tester on failed end ( for speed )

The item seemed ok when first used, tested less than 6 correctly terminated cables that did test out correctly using a quality piece of kit. Which this is not, I liked the idea of a simple tester for a quick assurance. But never happened as item seems like a very cheap knock off, or just a really poorly made item. Do not recommend, save your money.
