Shark vertex vacuum is a beast of a machine!
I researched this vacuum heavily before buying it and honestly I was not sure it was going to be as good as everyone said. I was wrong. The vacuum is stellar. I can tell that it's cleaning the carpet in a way that it was not cleaned by my old Shark vacuum because of what I see in the dust cup as they call it.. it's hardly a cup it's huge. The one thing they don't tell you in all the reviews and videos that I watched is that the motorized brush rollers are really powerful. I'm 72 but fairly strong very physically active/fit and this thing just about ran away with me. It was a workout to use it. Not in a bad way but still a workout. The forward is easy..but on the backstroke you've got to really pull against those brushes that want to go forward. Very impressive results so far. I might update this after three or four months of using it. I have a low pile ribbed carpet and I've been using it on the medium setting which seems to be appropriate for this carpet. I've not tried it on my hardwood floors yet. All I can say is the suction is very strong and puts my older.Shark Navigator and classic Miele cannister vacuum to shame. Completely worth the slightly higher price, very easy to put together right out of the box,. I couldn't be more satisfied.

High quality vacuum cleaner at a very reasonable price
I waited a couple months to do a review so that I had a good sample size on utilization. We have had a Shark Navigator for many years. It still runs and does a really nice job, but this Stratos is an upgrade in performance. The new Shark also has not clogged up with hair (so far) which was my primary pain point with our old Navigator. The Stratos cord length is about perfect for me, and the pickup on multiple surfaces is terrific. The Stratos weighs a bit more than the old Navigator, but I have no issue with lift away use. I will add that I am a pretty strong man, so the weight may be a concern for some users. The only downside is that it comes packaged with few attachments. My old Navigator came with an entire bag of extra attachments. Unfortunately, the Navigator attachments are not compatible with the Stratos vacuum. I love the Shark products. In my experience, they are better than more expensive machines from others (Dyson).

Awesome vacuum
This is my second Shark Vertex, model az2002. The first one lasted 5 years. The plastic swivel component that attached to the floor vacuum literally broke in pieces, a small piece first, then a large piece, then all of it. It would still vacuum, but not stand up, nor could you maneuver it. Tried repairing, gave up. I replaced it with a Shark Navigator lift away. I had previously owned one of those. After using the Navigator for 7 or 8 months, I decided to go back to the Shark Vertex. My reasons were, the Vertex is self cleaning. I have a great Pyrenees and a shepherd Pyrenees mix, a 2 small dogs. I vacuum every other day. It takes forever when you have to stop and clean the brush roll out. I also have a shag area rug, and when using the Navigator, even with adjusting the suction, it was more of a work out and struggle. I started looking at the Vertex model and caught it on sale on Amazon, I won't say what I paid, but it's a lot cheaper than what the price is now. Having said all this, the Vertex is worth it. The suction surpasses the Navigator, and it even dusts your floors. Long dog hair, no problem, vacuuming the car, got it. I dont find it to be heavy, or cumbersome. The Navigator is a good vacuum, but for me the Vertex is worth it, even if I only get another 5 years out of it.

Cleans very well and fixes everything I didn't like about my old vacuum
I bought a Shark vacuum about 7 years ago and the brush roll motor recently went out. Parts for that model are hard to find and the cost was enough that I decided to upgrade rather than try to repair it. Even though it broke I was happy with my Shark but I wanted to upgrade to address some of the shortcomings of that model and settled on this Shark PowerDetect. What do I like? It's very easy to assemble prior to your first use. Just a couple of connections and you're off. It cleans very well. I have pets, and a girlfriend and daughter who both have long hair. It works significantly than my old model. You can see and feel the difference. I was vacuuming when my old model broke. When I got this one a couple of days later I went over the same section of floor and it pulled out more dirt than I'm comfortable admitting. It's gets 5 stars for it's main purpose of picking up dirt. I also like the detection feature that changes based on what type of floor you're on or how close you are to a wall. The scent pod is fantastic. I don't even care if it's a money-grab. It works. My old vacuum had a slight smell even after completely cleaning it out and replacing all filters. The brush roll that prevents hair from getting tangled around it might be my favorite part. It really works. I was constantly having to clean the brush roll on my old model and haven't had any hair get stuck on the roll on this new model. I also like the change they made to the dust cup. In the old model stuff would get stuck inside and I'd have to open it from the top and pull some hair/dirt out. I don't have that issue at all with this one. Everything gets emptied when you open the bottom. What do I not like? The attachment points are very stiff. If I take the wand off I have to press hard to get it to latch when I put it back. I'm hoping this loosens up a little over time. There were a few times I'd put the wand back and go to start vacuuming and it disconnected. While the suction is fantastic, I have a couple of small rugs that I can't go over because it will pull them off the floor into the roll. Finally, and this has only happened one time, the PowerDetect feature went a little haywire while vacuuming and the suction was fluctuating even though I was in the middle of a carpeted floor. Not near anything and not going between floor types. I turned it off and back on and haven't had the problem again, even vacuuming the same spot that I was doing at that time. Other things to note. On some surfaces the suction is so good that the vacuum will propel itself forward, particularly if you're using it with the tank lifted off of the base. I don't mind it, it just requires a little firmer grip than I'm used to. It's also noticeably heavier than my older model. Again, not a big deal for me but might be more of an issue for some. Overall I'm very happy and would buy it again.

Shark Stratos: The Vacuum of My Dreams!
Oh my goodness! This vacuum is amazing!! This guy picks up everything I couldn't even see and that my Bissell Power Force Helix Turbo couldn't get! I already vacuumed with it then used this Shark Stratos. The bin was full and I only vacuumed my walk in closet!! What the heck?! I routinely clean my old vacuum but this one is insanely good! My carpet FEELS clean! Huge difference! It's pretty easy to put together and use. All the buttons/levers to change how you use it are very well labeled and pretty obvious to use. It's fairly heavy HOWEVER it's really not an issue. The wheels are so incredibly smooth and on high pile setting it glides along for you. Pushing or pulling is super easy! If you don't want to pick up the entire vacuum, you have many options to configure it if you want to vacuum corners or stairs to lighten the vacuum. You can assemble it so you only have the pole to vacuum under beds or dressers. I have the AZ3002 model for reference. It's a corded upright so no need to worry about battery life. You have 3 floor settings: thick carpet/area rug cleaning, carpet/low pile carpet cleaning, and hard floor cleaning. I tried it on each different surface in my home and it's great! Suction is out of this world!! I love that it has a white light especially on hardwood to see the difference. The light also changes colors if there's an issue that needs to be addressed. No issues have been had though. It comes with an odor cartridge that makes the floor smell awesome too! You can dial it way up for max freshness or turn it off completely if smells bother you. My dog's area near his cage where he usually hangs out seems clean as I vacuum it nearly everyday. Nope! This vacuum picked up his hair I couldn't even see, the carpet visibly is lighter in color now!! It comes with 3 attachments: crevice tool, upholstery tool and the pet multi tool. There are plenty more attachments to get which I certainly will be doing! I'm floored! If you can afford this, do it! Do the payment plans, something! It's so worth it!

Unbalanced, overheats, HEAVY
I was super excited for this vacuum because of all the raving reviews, but I hate it and am returning it. Cons: - Heavy - This thing is heavy! I am fit, 5'7, and lift regularly. I found myself sweating from pushing and pulling this thing in my two story carpeted house. - Cannot Handle Thicker Carpet - Like some reviews pointed out, the head pulls very strongly on thick carpet (which is unfortunately the majority of my home), and when using it the entire vacuum pulls forward. So much so that pulling it back was like doing a rows. If you take off the bin and hold it, the motorhead runs away on you. The vacuum is strong but works entirely against you. - Overheats - Using the power detect feature, I did 3 bedrooms and a loft of carpet floor, totaling maybe 1000 sf, and the motorhead overheated 3 times as indicated by flashing red lights and interrupted function. It would overhead basically after every room. The manual says you're supposed to let it cool down for at least 60 minutes--by that logic it would take me more than 3 hours to complete vacuuming 3 bedrooms. - Unbalanced - The head swivels, but it's so weirdly balanced that you have to strain your wrist and body to turn the vacuum and swivel the head to get in corners. Sure you can detach the motor but it's heavy, awkward, and the hose is short and stiff--which leads to my next point. - Stiff Short Hose - I get that it's meant to be convenient and allow you to detach the motor from the head, but the hose is incredibly stiff and just short enough to be impractical. I found if I leave the motor and body on the floor, the second I reach for anything with the hose I pull the whole thing over because the hose is so short. It's also incredibly stiff and gets tauter with the suction on, so even if you hold the motor in one hand and the head in the other, you're fighting the tension of the tight hose the entire time you're using it for crevices and corners. Just horribly designed and incredibly difficult to use. - Long coarse and stiff cable - the power cable is incredibly long and very stiff unlike other vacuums I've used. This makes it tangle like crazy since it holds the shape of the folds it came with and difficult to work with since it's also very rough and stiff. - From what I can see, there's 2 spots to stick your hose attachments on the base of the bin/motor assembly. However, depending on the attachment, like the air powered upholstery brush, it will prevent pulling off the removable bin/motor. - Dust Bin / Filter - Finally, with all the cyclone vacuums on the market, it's pretty disappointing to see a lack of dust separation here. Sure there the bin catches most things but the cheap little foam pad filter right before the motor got pretty nasty from one round of use around the house. I would imagine you need to wash that thing after every use to keep it clean, and it'd be just another extra cost for replacements. For the high end vacuum this tries to be, it's a pretty disappointing and half-cocked design and execution. - Power Detect - Just another automated gimmick. Realistically, you have to wait a full second for it to detect edges and floor type and if you're counting on the edge detection to boost suction on that side, you'll have to wait for that pause before you start vacuuming along the edge. Not convenient enough to warrant the hype and extra cost at all. Overall, it has the power but almost every aspect of it is brutal to use and does NOT feel like a $550 "premium" vacuum. I've been disappointed by the quality and design of Shark vacuums in the past and this one is unfortunately no different. It's a brutish product with lots of power but design and ergonomics just go out the window with its flaws and lacking ease-of-use. Would not recommend this at all for the price.

Best Shark I've ever had
My husband put it together quickly and easily. The cord is the longest of any Shark vaccum I've had. Easy to use. Didn't think it was heavy. Love the new features, especially the sensor setting. You don't have to flip switch when vacuuming carpet to tile. It has a light on base, clear if clean, red if over dirt. I saw red and so kept vacuuming, it increases power on red to help remove dirt, after a couple back and forth the light turned clear again. I believe it still works higjp Pulled a lot of dirt out. Easy to empty and holds a lot of dirt. Quieter than my last 2. Love it.

Item works for my needs
The first one purchased a week ago did not work after assembly. Returned and repurchased. Nice and sleek looking rose gold accents. Detaches easily with a one touch motion. Hose snaps and lock into place, a plus compared to other units. Unit pulls forward with a slight ease, eliminating the need to forcefully push. The pull back takes a bit more effort, slightly more effort than with other units I previously owned. The weight of the unit may be the result of the tension in the pull back. The weight appears to be on the medium side, when in use with the pull back motion, and lifting and/or carrying the unit. The hose attachment and powerful suction did a good job cleaning baseboards. The removal of the dust cup makes it very easy to vacuum underneath sofas and other surfaces, unlike any other vacuum cleaner I've owned. Rinse to clean of the reusable filters is a money saver. Removable soft roller is a plus for easy cleaning and accessibility for detangling of hairs and other objects. Typical long cord as seen with most vacuum cleaners. Attachments need a bit of force to get on and off of the detachable wand, putting a slight strain on my arthritic joints. Perhaps a locking snap and push button release mechanisms could enhance this minor issue. Hopely, one day Shark could come out with a longer upright handle to a vacuum cleaner for tall people and those of us with arthritic joints and the bending motions used in vacuuming. Otherwise, this item works for my needs.
