Great little router. No complaints yet.
I've only had this thing for a few weeks, but I really am loving it. I've never had a travel router before so it's hard to compare it to much, but it's intuitive and just works. The web interface is nice and it has a lot of features. I'm using Tailscale with it and it connects to my devices without major issues so far. Power draw is fairly low as well. I've tried it out at Starbucks, plugged it into a small Anker power bank and was able to power it for 2 hours with more than half of my charge left. The only POTENTIAL issue... it apparently takes 5V/4A power delivery and isn't strictly 'USB PD.' I was a bit worried because I'd like to use my USB-C power brick to travel with it rather than bring it's dedicated adapter, but most power bricks only support 5V/3A. However, I've been using it exclusively with 5V/3A-supported bricks and Anker power banks for a few weeks and I've had no issues. When I check the amperage with a USB-C meter, I have never seen it go above even 2A. So only a POTENTIAL issue at this point.Overall I'm very happy and if something changes, I'll update.

Good Travel Router
It has been reliable and makes it a lot more convenient and easier to connect my devices especially my Roku which can act finicky with Wi-Fi that requires authenticating through a portal at the hotel because I just only need to have this router authenticate to the hotel Wi-Fi and then connect my personal devices to this. The only thing I didn't like was how the power adapter was designed because while the prongs are on a separate piece that detatches, it would've made more sense to have it where the prongs fold in so that the power adapter doesn't take up too much space. Luckily this is powered via USB-C so I can just plug it into the wall using the same charger that can also charge my laptop at the same time that it powers this router.

Nice travel modem. Watch firmware updates.
I used this travel modem on several international trips and a cruise. It REALLY came in handy for the cruise because the cruise line limits your WiFi connection to one device at a time. I was able to use a laptop, phone, and tablet in my cabin at the same time. It has lots of features, some of which I used, some I will most likely never use. Be careful about updating the firmware (turn off auto update). My unit was updated and stopped being able to connect to WiFi. I was able to roll back to the previous version firmware, which fixed the issue. That was in September of 2024, so the problem may have been fixed.

Powerful Little Router – Perfect for Travel and Packed with Features
I’ve been a huge GL.iNet fan for years, and the Slate AX keeps that streak going strong. For such a small, pocket-sized device, it packs in everything you’d expect from a much larger router—Wi-Fi 6, gigabit speeds, VPN client and server, OpenWrt support, AdGuard Home, USB 3.0, TF card slot…the list goes on. Setup is straightforward, performance is rock solid, and it’s exactly the kind of reliable gear you want when traveling.I’ve used it as a repeater and in hotel/public networks, and it handles everything smoothly without slowing down. The size makes it easy to toss in a bag, yet it still feels durable and well-built. For someone who travels often and likes to stay connected securely, this is a no-brainer.I’ll also be reviewing the Slate 7 as soon as it arrives—I’m excited to see how it stacks up to this little powerhouse.

Great travel router
This was my first travel router, and now it’s something I take with me whenever I travel. It’s easy to set up when I get to a new hotel. I have it automatically connect to my VPN server back home using Wireguard. My devices default to this wireless network, so it’s quick to get up and running at a new location. Performance has never been an issue. The management web page is easy to use and tells you most everything you need to know.Having said that, I had problems using OpenVPN and the logs were hard to decipher. I couldn’t tell whether the problem was with client or server. In the end, I switched to Wireguard and it all works fine.
