It took a lot of effort to effectively tie them, and going to the bathroom was more complicated than I'd like. I got these hoping they would help, and they did tremendously. Here are some of the details I know that may interest you: -These do have a little give to them. So if your looking for something that's doesn't move/slide at all then these may not be for you. With that said, they do a great job for what they are. When they do slide, it's at a slow and acceptable rate. I could tie a loose knot on top of one of these and experience no problems at all. -The button is fairly easy to push in, so they should be elderly friendly. My kids were able to use them for pants and shoes. You may need stronger hands to initially get the strings through, I had a tough time with some strings. -The quality is good. I've used many of them, frequently, with heavy workloads and none have broke or worn so far. -They work with with round and flat strings. The only drawstrings I couldn't get through them were ones with large plastic caps on the end that were too big for the holes. Overall I've been very impressed with this product.
