Brilliant Whodunit!
Stacey Abrams is way ahead of the game. Her knowledge of our justice system and how our government works is beyond description. She wrote this years ago yet it rings true of what would happen if we had a corrupt president and lieutenants who did his bidding. Morals and integrity do matter. Lord Acton was correct when he wrote to Bishop Creighton in 1887 that the same moral standards should be applied to all men, political and religious leaders included, especially since “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” This should include former presidents and current Supreme Court Justices. But, I digress…Excellent story, Ms Abrams! Ten stars for, While Justice Sleeps. I shall read more of your work…

Amy Keene, A Brilliant young law Clerk of Legendary Justice, Howard Wynn
From celebrated national leader and bestselling author Stacey Abrams, While Justice Sleeps is a gripping, complexly plotted thriller set within the halls of the U.S. Supreme Court.Avery Keene, a brilliant young law clerk for the legendary Justice Howard Wynn, is doing her best to hold her life together—excelling in an arduous job with the court while also dealing with a troubled family. When the shocking news breaks that Justice Wynn—the cantankerous swing vote on many current high-profile cases—has slipped into a coma, Avery's life turns upside down. She is immediately notified that Justice Wynn has left instructions for her to serve as his legal guardian and power of attorney. Plunged into an explosive role she never anticipated, Avery finds that Justice Wynn had been secretly researching one of the most controversial cases before the court—a proposed merger between an American biotech company and an Indian genetics firm, which promises to unleash breathtaking results in the medical field. She also discovers that Wynn suspected a dangerously related conspiracy that infiltrates the highest power corridors of Washington. As political wrangling ensues in Washington to potentially replace the ailing judge whose life and survival Avery controls, she begins to unravel a carefully constructed, chesslike sequence of clues left behind by Wynn. She comes to see that Wynn had a much more personal stake in the controversial case and realizes his complex puzzle will lead her directly into harm's way in order to find the truth. While Justice Sleeps is a cunningly crafted, sophisticated novel, layered with myriad twists and a vibrant cast of characters. Drawing on her astute inside knowledge of the court and political landscape, Stacey Abrams shows herself to be not only a force for good in politics and voter fairness but also a major new talent in suspense fiction.

Clever and cool, but not well written
I love the angle she took and her brilliant plot but, like many books of this genre, the storyline was just convoluted. It didn't read smoothly and sensibly. If you're just in it for the characters, politics, and law though, then it's great.

a fitting read for what’s going on in today’s USA
Avery Keene, the heroine of this story, clerks for Supreme Court Justice Wynn. Avery becomes embroiled in a situation that may cost her her life at worst, her career at best. The story was a little hard to get into at first, mostly due to the many twists and turns the story takes. By the time I reached the middle of the book. I was hooked. The story is quite involved, with a large cast of characters from SCOTUS Wynn, his estranged son, the FBI, Homeland Security, Avery’s addict mother, a corrupt president and his evil henchmen. I am looking forward to reading Stacey Abrams next book.

Political affiliation aside, Abrams delivers a smartly crafted legal thriller!
Book Review – While Justice Sleeps – Stacey AbramsPolitical activist and author Stacey Abrams wrote a splendid, well-plotted, and well executed legal law thriller in “While Justice Sleeps” – the first book in the Avery Keene series. It was attention-grabbing and attention-keeping, with page-after-page anticipation involving everything from medical intrigue to biological warfare, to unscrupulous government officials, and outrageous ex-spouses. From the introduction of the very first chapter to the introduction of all the characters, to the very end, Abrams not only captured my attention, but grew it throughout this entire engaging story. Abrams has an expert use of language that evoked a true interaction with the reader. I was pleasantly surprised to how good this story was! A brilliant young law clerk, Avery Keene, for a legendary Supreme Court Justice, is doing her best to hold her life together - doing well in a demanding job with the court while dealing with a troubled family life. When the shocking news breaks that the Justice has slipped into a coma, Keene’s life turns upside down when she is notified that the Justice has left instructions for her to serve as his legal guardian and power of attorney on one of the most controversial cases before the court. Keene also discovers that the Justice suspected a dangerously related conspiracy that infiltrates the highest powers in Washington. This is a cunningly crafted, sophisticatedly outlined legal novel layered with numerous twists and turns, suspenseful action, and well-defined characters. Abrams delivered a very sharp and extremely satisfying nonpolitical legal thriller. Despite one’s political affiliation or political allegiance or political biases – While Justice Sleeps by ‘author’ Stacey Abrams is a clever, nonpartisan, and excitable legal thriller. It was well-written, stimulatingly told, and smartly developed!

A beautifully built courtroom climax makes for unputdownable reading.A story that never slows down, characters appear when they should and for as long as they should.
