AzooMignon Filter 150 Power Filter

I bought this filter from Amazon as an upgrade to the Azoo Mignon 60 I used to cycle my aquarium.I have a small 5.5 gallon aquarium with live plants, driftwood, and Flourite substrate. Tank inhabitants are a single male betta, 2 apple snails, an algae eater and 5 glass shrimp. This filter is very small, but does a great job cycling the water enough to keep the tank nice and clear. I felt the original Azoo Mignon 60 was right at its limit in how much water it could turn over in a 5.5 gallon tank.The only modifications I made to this new Azoo 150 were to remove the sponge and carbon it came with and replace them with BioMax and AquaClear foam inserts (both available through Amazon). I dropped a small mesh bag with about 12 biomax pellets and cut the new AquaClear foam insert to fit tightly into the top portion of the tank. The AquaClear (sponge) is taller than the flow of water (if that makes sense). So that all water that comes through the filter passes through the sponge and the biomax at the bottom cultures my healthy bacteria.The filter is very quiet and has an easily adjusted flow knob so that I can turn the flow down when feeding and back up after and even to full blast if I have disturbed the substrate when moving plants around. I think it is an incredible deal for the price. I was also really impressed with how small it is. I wanted to make sure that whatever power filter I used didn't look like a monster hanging off the back of a small 5.5 gallon tank.Overall it does the job, looks really nice and is cheap enough to buy a replacement if needed.

Great Little filter for betta tank! I bought a Fluval Chi 5 gallon tank. I am an experienced aquarium hobbiest and this is my first small tank, as a I just don’t have wall space in current home for a larger tank. The Chi tank is lovely, but the filtration is minimal, so I decided to supplement and added this after trying smaller in-tank “hidden” filters that just didn’t quite do the job. I was bummed to have to ruin the ambiance of the tank with a filter on the back and had to modify the plastic cover for it to fit—but in the end, superior filtration won over aesthetics. Had trouble finding this type of filter small enough to fit my tank, but this one did the trick. Minimal noise and the adjustable flow is great! I keep mine at full speed and our betta fish seems very happy and our water stays clear longer. Be sure to use the sponge on the intake if you have sensitive fish and remember the flow can be adjusted. I rinse and re-use the filter with non-chlorinated water and only replace it every two or three months if needed. Sponge can get rinsed, too. Gave it four stars on the noise and value because of the slight hum with the lid—but it is still a pretty quiet filter. It is quieter with lid off. The four on value is because the replacement filters are a bit more than they should be and they clearly come from China. If I could find a similar American made filter, I would buy that—but this is the only one I could find that fit my weird tank.

Update: After running a few days, the Azoo seems to have gotten louder. The vibrations seem to be picked up and amplified by my tank's frame and light. Unplugged it for a few seconds to compare it to the the three other filters in the room, and it was like turning the TV to mute. The space became so much quieter.The Azoo is still within "normal" for an HOB in terms of noise, but if you're looking for something quieter than Aquaclear, Biowheel, etc., this isn't it. I'll either find a use for it in a room with more background noise to mask the sound, or give it to a hobbyist whose need is better suited to it.ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOWThe good: It's a nice little filter. Construction appears on par with big name brands like Aquaclear. Easy to assemble and reasonably quiet. Adjustable flow. Prefilter sponge included for the intake.The less good: This should not be advertised to filter anything larger than a 5 gallon, in my opinion, and I feel like even that's a stretch. The flow rate just isn't enough for this to be the sole filter on anything larger. The media basket is fairly generous given the overall size of the filter, but it's still small and designed for vertical cartridge use. Over time, cartridges cost more than reusable media like sponges and ceramic rings. The intake tube is also short. Again, decent for most 5 gallons, but for a 10 gallon it could stand to be longer. In addition, while the motor on this filter is quiet, it's not silent, and the lid makes that worse due to vibrations. Depending on your noise tolerance, it may be too much for a desktop tank you spend a lot of time in close proximity to (say if it's on your nightstand by the bed or on a desk at which you work several hours a day).Conclusion: It's a great little filter, but don't expect perfection! There are quieter filters out there like the ZooMed nano canister filter, Fluval canister filters, and the back filters in Lifegard Aquatics nano tanks. But, when it comes to HOB filters for tiny tanks, you'll be hard pressed to find something as nice as the Azoo Mignon 150 at this price point.

Filter worked decently for the first while but did clog rather easily, far faster than my other filters.Now that I've had it for a while it has stopped working almost entirely, I disassembled the motor as much as I could to clean it out and it still barely moves water, probably a gallon an hour if im lucky, huge waste of money, and no more silent than any of my other HOB filters

No hace mucho ruido como otros dicen y genial para un gambario de 20 litros, obvio tiene poco caudal justo para no mover mucho a estos invertebrados.

Just really disappointed as I unpacked it. There were plastic chips throughout and it's clear that from the water flow it'll provide minimal filtration.

Perfecto para mi cubo de 8 litros. Muy estético, económico y modificable.
