Reliable even behind screen (edit: -1 star for bad behavior)
I bought this Rodann Driveway Alarm to replace a decades-old Dakota unit that had become the love-interest of a demented Pileated woodpecker. Having got holes in the old unit, I determined to test the Rodann in a box behind a layer of metal screen to protect it from the aforementioned woodpecker as well as curious flying squirrels and other rodents.Testing has showed the Rodann Driveway Alarm to work just fine behind (1) 1/4-inch square galvanized iron "hardware cloth", AKA rabbit screen (2) grey aluminum window screen, and (3) black aluminum window screen. With the unit on a post high enough to be above weeds and set at a 60-degree angle to the driveway, it reliably detects cars, trucks and humans.I haven't had the unit long enough to talk about battery life. The selectable tones are GREAT. The Dakota unit had only a loud, high-pitched squeal that drove the cat crazy, but he doesn't panic when the Rodann goes off.EDIT: I removed one star because of undocumented and/or bad behavior. It *seems* that when the dectector's batteries get low it sends an alarm signal over and over and over and over and over and over and and over and over and over ... the counter went to 700+ overnight. During this repeat, repeat, repeat stuff, the delay (set on the receiver) was IGNORED == no delay between alarms.I can't really confirm that yet until I kill another set of batteries in a few months (if that). The *new* AA batteries lasted from late December (after Christmas) to late February. It was kinda cold here in New England this year (we set a one-day record) so *maybe* that's the cause of short battery life. We'll see...

Best Driveway Alerts I've ever had...and I've had several!! Awesome!!!
I've had this system for approximately a month. I bought the receiver which comes with one transmitter. I also bought another transmitter because my driveway is very long. I have the tones set to different chimes so that if one goes off I will assume it's a deer or some other animal. If one goes off and the other goes off in several seconds I will know it's most likely a car. So far this system is working great. I am very pleased. Unlike my previous driveway alerts of different brands, this system has yet to emit a false signal. I have had several different brands in the past, but this one is by far the most reliable. I am tickled to death with it.Also, the customer service is absolutely awesome. Out of the box, one of the transmitters didn't work. I logged on to Amazon and requested to send the one transmitter back. The next day, Rodann contacted me by email and left a number and a name to contact for this issue. Before I got home to call, Rodann called ME on my cell!!! They were very anxious to get the issue resolved and to make me happy. The service rep asked me to try a couple of things before sending it back. I was happy to do this as the other was working so well. What he asked me to try fixed it right up. I had the dip switch settings messed up on the one! The rep was very nice and very knowledgeable about the product. Excellent customer service. It would be impossible to improve the experience. With all that being said, so far I am very pleased with this purchase. The driveway alerts are working as advertised. I will definitely purchase from these guys again. Thanks Rodann!

Reliable
It works. After almost 6 months and through a a sub-freezing winter (with li-ion AA cells), it hasn't missed a person or car in the driveway yet. It has also been reasonably immune from false alarms - just so long as there's no foliage in front of the sensor. The counter works ... sort of. If someone drives or walks quickly by, it works well. It will absolutely let you know that someone has been in the driveway. But, if a person or car pauses in front of the sensor, it'll continue to rapidly count up. I've seen it list 700 triggers from a UPS truck dropping off a package.Lastly, the choice of alarm tones is limited and not particularly what I would have wanted - especially as one of the 4 choices is identical to my doorbell, and is thus useless. One is too quiet, one isn't bad, and the last is really obnoxious. If one has multiple sensors, they can be set to the different tones, but as I said, the choices aren't great. This is by far the best choice I've seen for a driveway alarm.

IMPRESSED !!
Just installed today and I was surprised to see that it worked so well - especially after it detected every time we went through while testing it out - it transmitted approximately 250 feet through VERY THICK brush and trees ! ! . I'll give an update in a few weeks as we'll see how it performs in rainy and cold conditions . The only thing that was aggravating was taking out the recessed screws on the transmitter to hook up 9V battery - a pain in the rectum .- be VERY carefull to not strip the head of the screws as they feel like they're cemented in there and very small to boot !!!! The alert sound was pretty adequate and is adjustable - I think this is going to be a very good product from what reviews I've seen as for as working well in bad weather - we'll see. AN UPDATE AFTER 5 DAYS OF USE HAS SHOWN THAT UNIT WORKS GREAT DURING THE DAY - BUT NOT SO WELL RAINY DAYS NOR DOES IT CATCH EVERYTHING DURING THE NIGHT EITHER - MAY HAVE TO MOVE TO A LITTLE MORE CLEARER SITE TO TRANSMITTER BUT THAT CUTS DOWN ON WARNING TIME .Update after 1 month - unit got worse so I moved it approx. 100ft closer to house so it would have a direct line to receiver I also cut any limbs that would be remotely in sight of receiver - unit STILL not picking up but 30% of the time !! I called RODANN rep.-ALEX and we went over several things - sensitivity looked to be the problem - made the adjustment- worked very well when I drove my truck through it 6 times -but when my wife came home in her Camry - it was a NO GO . I WILL CALL BACK AGAIN - GETTING FED UP .
