How are you gonna upcharge 50 extra dollars for a different color??(black) WOW

Water weighs roughly 8 lbs per gallon. So it should weigh roughly 6 lbs when full.

Does the lid screw off, so you can fill it with ice?

Yes, you can I do it all time. I remove the cap and fill it with ice directly from the machine
