Great Product! Great Company! (Updated)
This light has made a huge difference for me. I had a therapeutic light some years back, but I wasn't disciplined about using it. Discipline is not my strong suit. This is easy to use every day. I keep it by my bedside, and I put it on when my alarm goes off in the morning (or when I first wake up on my own). I finish waking up in bed, read messages on my phone, get up and make my coffee, and thirty minutes later it turns off on its own. Then I put it back by my bed and plug it in so it is ready for me the next morning. It made a huge difference for me this year! Tip: When you get up our of bed, turn on the lights in your home so you can set where you are going. Otherwise, the intensity of the light from the device will prevent you from seeing your surroundings. And you'll find yourself running into walls. And doors. And dressers. And dogs, if you have them. :-) UPDATE: With a product like this, batteries will fail over time. I've had my light for more than three years now. Twice over three years, the battery started to fail. Each time I found the company contact information on Amazon, called, a friendly person answered, who apologized for the failure, told me how to send it to them, and then they fixed it and returned it to me promptly at no charge. This company, Physician Engineered Products, is awesome! And the product does the job!

A Life Saver
After many years of great sleep, I began having increasing trouble sleeping a couple of years ago. I struggled with early and late insomnia, often getting only 3-4 hours of frequently interrupted, light sleep a night. No matter how many lifestyle modifications I adopted--e.g., no fluids after 7 p.m., no caffeine after noon, no late snacks, stress reduction, HRT, regular a.m. exercise, frequent exposure to sunshine, etc.--I still couldn't sleep well to save my life. Various over-the-counter and prescription medications were either ineffective or produced unacceptable side effects, with the exception of one medication (trazodone) which worked great for several months until I developed tolerance to it. I became desperate to find relief again, and thank goodness I somehow stumbled upon the idea of trying light therapy. I've used my Feel Bright Light Visor daily for six weeks now, for at least 30 minutes upon awakening. After the third morning, I slept for six hours straight. I can't remember the last time I was able to do this without medication. Both my early and late insomnia have been helped. I'm able to fall asleep quickly now, and I average 6 to 6.5 hours nightly now, which is a huge improvement. A few times I've scored seven or eight hours straight, though that's rare. I have to be very careful to stay on a regular schedule; staying up late on New Year's Eve really messed me up for two nights, and I must allow at least an hour of quiet time to wind down before bedtime. As long as I do that, though, and use my light visor every morning, I'm fine. My mood has brightened, too. No doubt more sleep has helped this, but even in the years I got plenty of sleep, I've had mood difficulties in the winter, especially around the holidays, which give us some of our longest nights of the year. I did much better during this year's holidays, and on snowy days with no sunshine, I upped my visor usage to 1 to 1.5 hours each morning. I'm fortunate I can stay around the house and do that, because it seems to definitely boost my mood and energy level. Because I've got a knee problem and haven't been able to exercise aerobically over the last two months, this winter mood boost is an even bigger deal than it normally would be, because I depend so heavily on aerobic exercise to regulate my mood. The visor is lightweight, which is good when it comes to wearing it and packing it for travel, but initially I wondered about durability. So far, though, I don't see any signs of wear or problems developing. After wearing it in the morning, I put the visor back on its charger until early evening and then unplug it for the night. I'll report back in a few months, but to date, I'm so grateful to have found this product. Can I prove the light visor is responsible for my improved sleep? No, but it's the only change I've made in the last few months. The change in my sleep is fantastic, and this has been the easiest winter mood-wise that I've had in decades, so I'm sticking with it. Update 11-3-11: This is my second winter to be using my Feel Bright Light Visor. I didn't need it during the summer when the sun was brighter and days were longer, but about mid-September, I could tell I needed to start using it again. It's been a relief to put it on in these dark mornings and get a nice dose of bright light and a mood boost.

Hazardous to eyes - do not use!
[Feb 2023 Updated Review] Most LEDs (even white ones) emit an unnaturally large amount of blue light compared to the other wavelengths of light. Incandescent, halogen, and fluorescent lights produce less blue light and have been shown to be less damaging to the eye than LEDs. White LEDs at 2000 lux have been shown to be damaging to the eye (in ways that promote macular degeneration) after 6hrs. Only 14% of light from those LEDs was in blue wavelengths, so roughly 0.14*2000= 280 lux of blue wavelengths would damage the eye after 6hrs. Now take that figure and multiply by 12 to get how many lux of blue wavelengths is damaging after just 30 minutes: 3360 lux. This visor light product's LOW setting is MORE THAN DOUBLE that at 8000 lux! For a product intended to be used every day for months on end, this is a clear hazard to your eye health and future vision. Avoid this! A safer alternative is a FULL-SPECTRUM light at 10,000 lux (even if it uses LEDs) for the usual 30min/day. A reminder: Such lights are safest & most effective in your peripheral vision - do not stare directly at them. [Original review] This visor-mounted light for Bright Light Therapy (BLT) has worked for me. I put it on every morning right after getting out of bed. The brightest setting was too much, so I do 30 minutes of the dimmer setting (the light turns off after 30 minutes). It has made a big difference in my mental function, and also has made light sensitivity less of a problem for me. I charge it every 2 days for 2.5 hours (set a reminder to unplug it or the battery life will suffer). What I like about this, aside from how much it has helped with my low level of function: It is convenient to properly receive the right (therapeutic) amount of bright light. Compared to those large lights sold for BLT, or those small versions that you can only get enough lumens by keeping your face perfectly still, 6 inches from the light for a half hour...this product being mounted to a visor/hat keeps the light level consistent and lets you go about your morning routine while using it. It's immensely convenient. What I disliked about this specific product: The product is a little different from what's in the picture on Amazon. It is no longer mounted using heavy duty velcro, but instead using clips that are part of the LED enclosure. Literally the ONLY reason I spent the extra ~$40 on this version that comes with the (cheaply made) visor, is because I wanted to know with confidence that the light would be able to be mounted properly to the thing I put on my head. Because I have no experience attaching velcro to the fabric underside of a hat that I already own. But what was shipped to me was their "improved" version that has clips instead of velcro. This made the cheap visor completely useless, since the clips easily fit on any other hat I own. My advice: Get this BLT light, but don't spend the extra $$$ on the crappy visor.

Very convenient, but expensive and doesnโt last.
When the light works, itโs fantastic. It is easily the most convenient of the SAD lights Iโve used over the past 30 years. Itโs always the right distance from your eyes even as you walk around the house. The problem with this light is that it is expensive and it doesnโt last. I have bought 4-6 of these in my life, and get generally as few as 1 and as many as 3 years before the battery no longer holds a charge for more than a few seconds, or the voltage no longer stays high enough to make the LEDs as bright as they used to be, so I have to throw it out and buy a new one. This simply is not acceptable when youโre charging over $100 for a plastic case, 6 LEDs, a battery, and a timer. The actual problem is the battery theyโre using. In order to fit inside the plastic case, theyโve used a 3.7v 200 mAh lithium ion battery, which only holds enough charge for about an hour of use at the bright setting, so it needs to be charged every day or two. The battery they use costs maybe a dollar or two. Making customers pay $100+ to replace the entire apparatus when itโs really only a $1.50 battery that needs to be replaced is beyond unethical in my opinion. This year, I finally had enough. I really do like using this visor, because it really is incredibly convenient, but I wanted it to work and keep working! The battery is NOT user-replaceable because itโs hard-wired to the circuit board, so this required cutting the old battery out, desoldering the connections, and soldering in a 3.7v 2000 mAh battery I got from Adafruit for $12, which literally lasts 10x as long as the original battery. (You can buy similar batteries here on Amazon). Itโs a not difficult procedure for someone with basic experience in electronics, but itโs probably not something the average person could do. Also, because the battery is much larger, it doesnโt fit inside the original case, so youโll need to find a way to mount it (mine is in a plastic mint/gum box that I hot-glued to the top of the visor brim). Itโs not pretty, but spending $12 on a battery now for a device that will last many years instead of $100 every two years makes this more than worth it for me. If this visor had a user replaceable battery that gave me a GOOD two years of use, i would gladly upgrade my review to 5 stars instead of 3.

Ahh bummed. Stopped working after 3 days
I used blue light therapy to treat a major sleep disorder. It has almost completely remedied the issue. I use the litebook by he litebook company. The only issue with the device is that you have to use it early in the morning consistently and be stationary. I read while it shines in my eyes. I was excited about the visor so I could do laundry in the morning etc. It worked great for 3 days. Then it stopped taking a charge. I plug it in for several hours. Light flickers on for a sec, then goes out. I think the battery went bad. Seems like a well made product, but obviously returning it. I'll stick with the litebook. If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess.

Feel Bright Cap/Light- light therapy that helps you wake up and fight the winter blues
I was gifted this a few years ago and it has been a great asset. It is so easy to put it on in the morning while I read the news or email for 30 minutes, and the charge I feel from the lights is palpable. On those cloudy and short days, it helps me wake up and be productive. I would have given 5 stars, but I recently had to replace it with a new one, because the battery pack would no longer take a strong charge, and the lights weren't as bright as they used to be. But this is way more convenient than a desk lamp- as it moves with you when you get up and the lights are always at the perfect distance from your eyes. I hope this one lasts longer than 2-3 years, but I would definitely replace it if it does not.

SAD and Post-Partum Depression LIFESAVER!!!
Amazing product. I was skeptical at first, but desperate to combat SAD and Postpartum Depression without drugs. It works, and I don't know how - it may even be psycho-somatic - but I don't care. My anxiety is gone and I do not have any depression symptoms. Incredible. It works so well and made such a great improvement in my mood and mental well-being that my mom ordered one two weeks later and loves hers. This is WELL worth the money. I've been on prozac, wellbutrin and various anti-anxiety drugs and no longer need them. I cannot adequately describe how happy I am to be able to use this visor instead of taking medication. If you're considering buying a visor but are hesitating because of the cost, think of it this way: co-pays for anti-depressants add up and all of us can go without the side effects. It looks weird and your partner will probably laugh at you when you wear it, but the outcome is so unbelievably strong that you will never again want to go without it. I had to travel for a funeral and didn't use it for two days and my depression/anxiety came back almost full force. It was terrible and now I'm very careful to never miss a day. I highly recommend it to anyone suffering generalized anxiety, SAD and/or postpartum depression.

Had one before new one is even better
A few years ago I bought the earlier version of this product and it worked very well for my SAD but had lots of issues with the control knob and recharging, and it finally just wore out. But this newer version is a much better design with no battery pack and loose wires hanging from your belt, and the new one uses lithium batteries which are the best rechargeable batteries widely available. I also did some research and everything I read said that the blue/green light spectrum is best for SAD, and this newer version uses blue/green, the old version used white. The extra feature of being able to mount it to your own hat is nice too. But the real reason to buy this is that the light therapy can actually work! I went one season without it, and that was a mistake I could really feel the difference. Like anything else, it doesn't simply make your problems go away, you have to stick to it, and follow recommendations then taylor them to your own situation. (Keep the lights on when you're using it so you can see past the visor.) I use it every morning for 30 minutes (it shuts off automatically no timers) on the low setting (research I did suggested the high setting is overkill so I only use it if I'm cutting my time down to 15 minutes), and I can feel the difference. I hate winter and go into depression when the days get short and the sky is cloudy (I live near Chi we get very little sun in an average winter) -- years ago my ex-wife pointed this out to me and bought me that earlier version. Everyone around me could tell something was different for the better, my mood was markedly better, and I actually started wanting to leave the house and do things in winter, and this new version is better than ever, I can feel the difference after just a couple weeks of using it, so I don't want to live through another winter without one!

This hurt my eyes
Iโve used northern light SADlite lamp with no issues but I bought that directly from their website. I wanted to be able to move around so I got these. But after daily use for a few days my eyes started to hurt not matter how much I adjusted it so the light wasnโt in my eyes. Not sure what that was about. I bought them in 2018. Since I paid $230 for it, I wished it had worked for me the the way it worked for others.

Easier way to relief!
This is the way to go! I had immediate relief from my symptoms with this light. Having the visor makes it so simple to get the dose of daily light. No sitting in front of big bulky lamps any longer.

Stopped working after a week
Amazing product if it were better engineered. Worked perfectly for a week or so and now does not work at all. It only turns on for a few moments and then shuts itself off. I did email the manufacturer and have not heard back. I would love to have a working one because I could feel the difference even in such a short time, and I do not have time in the mornings to sit in front of a light for half an hour.
