I've used this original for years and found it ideal for my purposes. I needed an extra base so I could have one on my table top tripod and one on my monopod (I don't like to carry a regular tripod and avoid it if at all possible). The question on my mind was whether or not the old and new would interchange, but they do. This device is very well engineered and made without being unnecessarily bulky. The vendor's listing said only one in stock with no notation about future availablility so one has to consider that if purchasing one with the idea of purchasing additional for a system in the future. Also, only one vendor listed and carried this item, so I don't know if that vendor has a source for it or what I bought was NOS. Actually I bought 3 of them back in those old Kodachrome days. Saves a lot of time during set-up no matter what your doing. I do most of any shooting with a tripod of some sort and whip that up, whip the camera, snap on, snap off!Shooting a wedding or just travel photography, snap on, snap off. You just look good doing that while others are fumbling. So I have integrated their usage with flash and multiple camera bodies.So one day I left a tripod on the rear of the truck. While I hate losing anything, losing the tripod meant I lost one of these bases to this system. Terrible!So, found these on Amazon, bought one and they fit my older ones perfectly and visa versa! Bought 4 more.FYI: I have bought a few new cameras lately and I ordered additional quick releases for each.
