Rockler Dust Right Lathe Dust Collection System w/ 9" Dust Scoop & Boom Arm

I can't believe I waited so long to add this to my shop! I mostly do pen turning, and occasionally some other small spindle projects like bottle stoppers, tops, and weed pots. Yesterday, I turned 3 resin and 2 wood pens, plus an acrylic pipe kit, and this (see picture) is all the mess! There were days I avoided turning or put it off just because of the mess it usually makes, especially resin and acrylic blanks, but this actually captured the majority of the shavings and almost all the dust! It fits my 12" midi lathe perfectly and works better than I expected. My only gripe is that the included hose needs an adapter to fit a standard shop-vac hose (it only took 30 minutes to draw one up and 3D print it). Great value for the price, and should last a long time!

Fits perfect on wen midi lathe and with the step down connector I was able to connect my dust right collector to it no problem. The hose on the Dust right is a bit heavy and while it seemed to hold it just fine I didn’t want to strain the smaller hose on the lathe dust collector so I added a steel cable for a little Extra support. Excellent! Fits great with basic pen mandrill holding two blanks as well ! Performance is as expected .

I am somewhat disappointed in the performance of this system. I was hoping it would pick up more chips than it does. It does do a good job with dust removal on spindles but the chips fly all over the place. I use a strong shop vac. I may have expected too much but I am pleased with the way it removes the saw dust which I realize that is what it was designed to do.

I'm using this on a mini-lathe with an inflatable sanding drum. The dust right is connected to a dust extractor and most of the dust is caught. It's fairly easy to temporarily move it out of the way when changing drums. Very happy with the purchase.

This is a must if you sand on a wood lathe. I use a medium size shop vac & the chips/dust this hood catches is unbelievable. I'd had it pull sandpaper out of my hand. Once in parting off my project, it went into the collector. It's easy to install & move around once on your machine.

I tried this to help with dust coming off pieces I'm sanding on my lathe. I tried with more than one shop vac but none pulled a significant amount of dust. I repositioned it several times and tried everything I could think of, but it didn't do anything worth mentioning. In my experience, Rockler tools usually work very well, but not this time. I've resorted to blowing a floor-standing fan across my workpiece, so the dust goes out of my shop door. That and an N95 mask do a great job. Dust is just a fact of life. :)

Just arrived today. Easy install. All parts made of strong durable materials. Deficiently recommend.

No woodworker should be without this assembly. It works like a charm to remove sanding dust.

This is the cats meow for all pen, duck call, christmas decors or any other small piece done on the lathe. I have hooked a shop vacuum to it and it works beautifully. Having a mask and ear plugs for safety is a must. Do not know why I waited so long to get one.

Should have bought one years ago.

Could be a great attachment, however I will not know, as they only included 8 of the 13 parts needed....The first thing you see when you open the box is the parts list, how hard could it be to have your employees read what should go in the box before packing them.

I really like this dust collector. Works perfect not only for sanding, but turning also. Depends on the size of the project, but with smaller pieces it captures most of the dust. Very easy to adjust to various positions.
