You can buy baskets and box traps galore but really all you need to catch crabs are some weighted lines and a couple of really ripe chicken necks.Buy this set of crab lines, and pick up some chicken necks from the local market along with a 6-pack of beer. Put the beer on ice and let the chicken sit outside in the sun. By the time the beer is cold, the chicken will be sufficiently foul to send waves of stink through the water to your intended prey and you are ready to go crabbing. Just make sure you bring a bushel basket with a snug fitting lid--having those suckers get out in your car on the drive back from the dock or boat can make for a very interesting ride.Seriously though, these crab lines are pretty high quality and a good deal for the price. You will pay much more trying to buy weighted crab line at the dock. If you want to pay less than this, you should just make your own crab line. The tongs are a bonus.

Initially skeptical, this proved to be quite useful - the weighted lines are high-quality and gets baits secured hooked (chicken necks and legs) and the tongs were great for grabbing the blue crabs. Local crabbers sell these at their shops which probably speaks to the quality as well.

My first complaint is that the drop weights on these lines are an ounce smaller than the ones I get at my local shop. However, I ended up having to add 3 oz. weights anyway due to a strong current. Also, the bait clip did work, but the tip of it isn't sharpened like the ones my local shop sells. Fortunately, I was baiting my lines with menhaden, which isn't hard to pierce.The glove they give you is kind of useless. It's just a cheap gripper glove like you can get at any hardware store for two bits. I wouldn't really use it to grab crabs with since it won't protect you from a pinch like a Kevlar glove would.The tongs are actually pretty good quality. They are long enough to avoid claws but not so long that it makes them hard to use. They did help with getting the crabs into the steamer.I didn't receive any free sample of Old Bay seasoning like the description says, but as a Marylander, I have a ton of that stuff at home anyway.Overall, it's a decent purchase for the price.

Wow. I love this product. When I say, I have crabs, I have crabs alright !! I used this and immediately caught crabs. Those little buggers were crawling all over the place. Kinda made me squirm at first, but I grew to love them !!! Highly recommend

After reading reviews I decided to take give these a try. SCORE! We were going crabbing in OBX and had been told we didn't need a license if we used this contraption or the wire ring baskets that collapse and of course, it was much more inexpensive than going on an excursion. We had seven kids in our party. I bought multiple and they worked perfectly. Just tied a day old chicken neck bone on the end and BAM! Be sure to leave out the bones in the sun until they're nice and rancid. So much fun!

We caught several blue crabs on our last trip to the beach from the shore using chicken legs. Really is a great product and my 4 year old had a great time. quality is there and it arrived quickly.

Like a lot of people I too was missing a glove. String seems cheap so I will replace it. Tongs are in my kitchen draw for hot dogs too small for crabs 🙂

You get what you pay for. Very cheaply made. Doesn’t hold up to the vigors of crabbing. Would not recommend to anyone.
