Because the extension rods were just the right height to poke my husband in the eye, we made it shorter by taking out the middle poles on both sides. Fortunately I wanted it to move shirts and coats, not to hang pants and dresses. I think you could make one side shorter and keep the other at the regular height if you wanted. **Q: How does this fold down for under bed storage as advertised?** A: Neither the page I ordered from nor the link attached to this question mention under bed storage. I like that you can extend it on all sides a bit which lets me add a few extra items Like hangable storage for shoes. The hooks that it comes with are also very useful because I can hang purses & belts. It’s fairly strong and the only thing I can say is if I am rolling it around while I have everything on it, it does wobble a bit and you can tell it could easily fall over if the weight distribution is off.
