Live while you can!
When I ordered this book, I was expecting blank pages except for a crudely drawn middle finger on the first one, but no! Aaron Clarey comes though with information on the question every young person needs to ask. How do I want to live my life after I leave home? He lays out a plan of how to tour the United States before entering college and or the workforce. How to avoid being entrapped in the city/state you were raised in. And how to explore what occupation that you will really enjoy before you get stuck in a rut you'll regret. A must read for those just starting out or starting over.

Another great book by Aaron Clarey
I've been a huge fan of Aaron Clarey's work for a while now, and this is one of my favorite books that he's written. To me, most of the concepts were preaching to the choir, as I've already extensively traveled the country (and the world) looking for interesting places to explore and perhaps even a better place to settle down. It boggles my mind how many people just stay in their hometown their whole life and never get out there and see all the awesome places that are out there.I would say this is a great book for high schoolers or young adults who haven't gone to college yet, because it gives you the chance to think about what kind of direction you want to take in life. Most of us are pressured to go to college right after high school and make a huge financial and time commitment, even if we don't yet know what we want to do. This book helps you take a step back and realize that it might be better to take a break from the school system and explore the world before making any life-changing decisions.

A Good Read For Young People But With Some Caveats
It's a nifty book for young people trying to figure out what thye want to do in life. Aaron Clarey advocates that every young person should go explore the great U.S. before deciding on what college they should attend. This way they can learn about themselves more, and find other opportunities while out and about. Some things he advocates, and this rings true with people who live internationaly like myself.Move to places that have low taxes, and high freedom, such as Texas. I was raised in a middle of the road place like Kentucky, which he does not recommend.Be careful where you move to. The people you befriend, the job you take in that location will determine your destiny. I have lived in South Korea for over a decade. I started a family here, so I know the importance of this.Take into consideration the weather, future demographics, and politics of the area you want to move to. All good sound advice. Some Caveats.1.He presents a very opinionated point of view. If you agree with his message of minimilism, and the Western United States is the best part of the U.S. then great, otherwise his recommendations might turn you off.2. He preaches a very cheap of traveling such as crashing on people's couches, look at his recommendation for couchsurfing.com, and while traveling washing your clothes in public restroom sinks. One of friends didn't think this was a realistic way of traveling, so just keep that in mind.

A good guide for young people
A great book giving great guidance to Younger people. It is a good instructional for those who need to find themselves as well as how to find their direction. I wish I would have had this information when I was at the specific target age this book aims at as well as the mentality to listen to it. I highly recommend this book to anyone between 20-30.

Absolutely one of those books that I wish I'd had at a younger age
Absolutely one of those books that I wish I'd had at a younger age. The lack of spiritual guidance young people have today in the mad rush to "get ahead" is the greatest disservice the previous generations have done to them. I'm buying a few more copies to hand out to young people I know today. Thanks again Mr. Clarey for the easy read and quality insight again. If you're ever in Austin the Cigars and BBQ are on me.

Another Clarey Winner!
This is a logical follow-on to the author's books Worthless, Enjoy the Decline and Bachelor Pad Economics. The author gives young adults an attack plan to form a 2-year reconnaissance of the best parts of the United States. It is NOT a road trip book. It is a tough plan for those few high-school graduates who can commit to a major life-changing plan. It requires self-education, discipline and focus. But for those who become a Reconnaissance Man (or Woman), they will be years ahead of their peers in maturity, career and happiness. If you know such a young adult - BUY this book!

Great young person's resource
This book is a must-read by any young person before they set up roots in any State. Aaron covers the art of being a 'Reconnaissance Man' (or woman) in great depth, and narrows down a list of possible States to settle down in based upon an individual's preferences and life goals. Want outdoor adventure so you can find that rock climbing partner of your dreams? Or maybe you hate hot climates and want a more temperate place to live, fear not, Aaron has a State for you. Very well written and accessible to teenagers and adults alike.

A must read
If you could only read one book this year, I would recommend reconnaissance man over any book in my library. A wise, pragmatic and philosophical guide to travel, finance, and the American dream, one that doesn’t end in the typical nightmare of debt, wage and location slavery ever America child is brainwashed into K through 12. I read the entire book in one sitting, a testament to Clareys ability to articulate, enlighten and entertain. A mandatory read for anyone who wants adventure, explore and enjoy life to the fullest.
