Treating Trauma and Traumatic Grief in Children and Adolescents

I bought this book for work as I am learning to implement the model. I gave it 3 stars because I finally got around to opening it almost a month after purchasing and pages just fell out of the binding! I’m very disappointed as this book was quite pricey and several pages are not falling out with no way to put them back together!

The text is considered the "manual" for TF-CBT. The book is easy to understand and gives good insight into TF-CBT. While reading this book alone will not qualify you for certification in TF-CBT, it is an excellent text to get a therapist started or while in training and/or completing the consultation calls for TF-CBT.

The content of the book meets every expectation, the quality of the book is poor. It was bound poorly and the pages are coming out, starting in chapter 7. Wry frustrating to have to hold pages in with a paper clip so as not to lose them!

This book is amazing. I am using the concepts, and seeing great progress with the kids and adolescents!

I really like this book and approach. It provides background, scientific research, and sufficient structure for treatment fidelity without limiting clinicians' ability to meet individual client/patient needs. What I would have liked--and this may be directed more toward the publisher than the authors--is more clarity on the reproducible handouts available. I found the handouts on trauma related to domestic violence and sexual abuse very good, as well as those on relaxation, affect, and cognition. What I was after* was material on trauma in general, useful for those whose trauma stemmed from neglect or abandonment, psychological abuse, or environmental causes, such as a car wreck or explosion. That said, the excellence of this book and its approach far outweigh the limitation noted.* and spent and additional sum on the e-book, while waiting for my hard copy to arrive.

Great book for following TF-CBT framework and learning more about TF-CBT. Highly recommend to TF-CBT practitioners.

Well organized book. It gives direction to the TF-CBT theory to help guide treatment.
