Works really well, removes scales easily without them popping up or flying out of the sink. Pros: - solid brass head, this will last a long time - good design, the scaler is flat and the blades that remove the scales are horizontal so it does not cut into the fish skin or tear delicate areas - easy to use - easy to clean - well made - made in Japan Cons: - it is more expensive than others It does have a wood handle. This does not bother me and I like it but others may not. The head is well mounted but I am sure you could replace the handle if you are handy

As a Chef working in a restaurant that works with fresh fish as well as everything else I do a lot of the butchering of different types of fish. Currently our menu contains Sea Bass, Red Snapper, Salmon, Halibut, as well as chowder. All of our fish comes to us field dressed but everything else we take care of. It used to be that the company we bought the product did a good job with scaling the fish as well but recently they've been getting worse about that and using the back of a knife just isn't the best way to do the job, besides not being the best on the knife! Well, when I got to work yesterday I was able to use the scaler for the first time and I have to say that I am quite impressed with the ease of use, ease of cleaning, and the great job it does taking the scales off! I am very happy with the purchase so far and as long as it doesn't break in a week I'm sure I'll be happy with it for a long time. It seems sturdy so I'm not really worried about that. Thank you for your product!! It is appreciated and is now a part of my weekly routines!

This really is a great descaler for your seafood needs. Sturdy too!

Finally, a high quality, easy to use, ambidextrous scaler! This is an edit of my prior review. I am now rating it a "4" based on the fact that the handle came off after only 4-5 uses. I expoxied it back on but for this price that should be done by the manufacturer.

As advertised. Solid thick brass. Perfectly sized for my hand. Will definitely remove scales fast. Seems to be well built and a great value. Made in Japan.

Worked great for fish with scales bigger than 1cm wide. One quick stroke and most/all scales removed. Worked decently for fish with small scales. The fish had scales about <0.5cm wide (3-5mm) and this tool worked but it took a few strokes to remove all the scales.

Useful and much better than the reverse spoon technique. However it is not manufactured in Japan as shown in the product page. I found that information out as soon as I opened packaging and it says made in China. I would made the same choice if you just said the truth of its manufacturing location. Why the false information? That’s why you got three stars.

This is made in china not Japan. When I use this second day, there is top of handle metal part was broken so fast. I’m so disappointed.

I received brush by yesterday, but it's made in China. Japan and China are two products. They're different.
