Grim Reaper Fixed & Mechanical Broadheads 100 & 125 Grain Hunting

I used these broadheads to harvest two deer this year. One was a high lung shot at 15yds and that deer made it about 100 yds which did not surprise me as it was a little keyed up when I took the shot. Decent blood trail once the lungs filled up to the hole. The other was a liver shot at 15yds. That deer only went about 40 yds with a blood trail I could see from my chair. I like the performance but do not consider them any more effective than the Muzzy 3-blades I was shooting before. As far as the accuracy goes they do not shoot to the same POI as my field points but are very consistent when I sight in after putting them on. They also shoot to the same place as the practice heads which is a plus. They were more consistent then the Muzzy heads in my faster crossbow. I did find both used heads with the blades closed but the Grim Reaper website explains that and has a couple of videos showing how the inertia of the blades closes them after they exit the animal. The holes in both deer clearly showed the blades were deployed. In terms of construction they are rather complicated with all the rings etc. but it is a solid design and allows for replacing blades which is a plus as well. NO bands but you have to be willing to deal with small moving parts and razor blades at the same time. The manufacturer does have some good how to videos on their site. No shoulder contact on either deer but there were broken ribs on both sides and the second bolt stuck about an inch into a tree about 20 yds behind the second deer. The head appears undamaged and will be used again with new blades. I am shooting a Horton Storm RDX, Black Eagle Executioner shafts, OmniBrite lighted nocks and Blazer vanes (avg. 451gr) at an estimated 350fps In summary this appears to be a solid product and I will keep using them. 2020 update Have used these for several years now and they continue to meet expectations. I have harvested multiple deer and turkeys with consistent performance. Two were recovered two with broken blades, one on a turkey that broke both legs but also one blade. The other on an 8pt that punched through the off shoulder. One blade was bent back to far it would not return to the slot. Still got complete pass through and the other two blades still work. Probably not the choice for heavy boned animals but they work great for medium game. Still shooting the Horton but have switched to Easton XX75 Magnum bolts/Alpha nocks/AAE vanes for a finished weight of 491gr @ 330fps

Fantastic mechanical broad heads. When used in conjunction with sighing in with the practice tips (sold separately), they are exceptionally accurate you will absolutely hit your target when properly sighted in. I have yet to have any form of malfunction in years of hunting, and every animal I have hit had died within 50 meters of impact. Maximum trauma, clean & ethical. They are a bit expensive, but, to me, well worth the money knowing they will drop the target.

I have not used the 125 grain mechanical broadheads yet on a hunting trip. I have used the 100 grain. I like the fact that they work as advertised. I used one to shoot a spike buck and was pleased with the entrance and exit wounds. These are designed for high speed cross bows - anything 400 fps and higher they say. I don't know if these will work for slower cross bows or for conventional vertical bows. It closed back up at the end of flight. This makes you think that it never opened, but trust me they do. Mine worked good. I ordered the 125grain to fix an issue I saw after I installed lighted nocks on my arrows. I installed lighted nocks that weigh 26.4 grains. With the extra weight of the nocks the arrows didn't impact straight on with the original 100 grain tips. It was like the nock end of the arrow was trying to catch up with the tip. With heavier 125 grain field tips the arrows once again impact squarely on the target.

I don't always use mechanicals. But when I do, I use Grim Reapers. Stay staby staby my friends. For reals dude, my fam n friends use this model with bows and xbows, with great effect. My second choice would be Muzzy originals.

My doe ran 30 yards big entrance and huge exit it true what the say i watched her drop cant beat that didn't have to even look for a blood trail. BUT i bought 2 packs both practice tips broke after 2 shots each they were 6" left of my target for 40 yards but they were vertically dead on so since they broke i went ahead and used the real one it was only 2" off at 40 yards so i made slight adjustment and its all good so the real heads fly similar to my 100 grain target tips but the practice heads suck. Do like them and will use them as i said in the beginning they work great just need a more reliable target tip Update i sent this same review in an email to grim reaper a day or so later i got an email back apologizing for my inconvenience and ask me if i could send pics of practice tip. I said no cause i threw them away. He said can you send me pic of the normal tips i said sure sent him the pics of my tips as proof of purchase. He ask for my address and said he was sending me new ones. You cant beat that customer service. I wasn't even looking for that i love the broad head just was giving them my 2 cents so they would improve the practice tip i will keep using them. Try them you will WATCH THEM DROP

This is the best broadhead on the market and I'm going to tell you why because I'm bored. I've been shooting these for about 10 years now but I purchase nearly every broadhead that is on the market both fixed blade and mechanical and test them to see which arrows fly the best and impact the same as field points out to 100 yards along with a few other parameters. Here are my requirements. Accuracy first and foremost. These are at the top of the list. Most likely because of their aerodynamic design. There is a lot of engineering going on here and I can assure you this is no accident. Even the blades on the top line up with the main blades. These will group about an inch lower than field points at 100 yards even in the wind. Next would be strength. These blades are thicker than some of the fixed blades i have tried. I've never broken a blade or bent anything on animal impacts. Sharpness. These blades are razor sharp and I comfortably kill two deer before retiring each head. Cut on contact. These heads will open open fully on impact so even if you don't get a full pass through you will still have a blood trail to follow. Some brands have very streamline design but do not make an entrance hole. Sure they will kill the animal which is nice. But you might not find it. It's the difference between skipping down a blood trail or following deer tracks on your hands and knees Noise. Broadheads must be quiet. Both in flight and in the quiver. Most bow noise I see from folks is a quiver full of garbage. Deer will be gone before the arrow leaves the bow. Want a quieter bow? Look at your quiver and broadheads. Rubber. Do not use broadheads that use rubber bands/ o rings. They will rot and then open in flight. I see a lot of companies are getting away from rubber now but grim reaper had this figured out from day one. I'll keep looking for better heads but as of right now these will be in my quiver come hunting season.

Fly like a dart. Killed three bucks with them. Blew through ribs. Blades held up. Never had one go over 50 yrds. Great blood trails. Love them. 100 percent confidence.

junk shot the practice broad head threw a canvas bag filled with a plastic tarp and destroyed it, shot one of the actual broad heads threw the same target and broke 2 of the blades completely off never buy them again
