Low magnification, cheap metal, thick glass
It's ok. This product has recently become available again & it's safe to say they've made some changes. The chain is quite thick, so I don't think there will be any concerns of it snapping, as mentioned in earlier reviews. It is a surprisingly heavy and thick piece of glass. Not like, "Oh, my neck hurts" heavy, but heavy for a piece of jewelry and somewhat clunky. It does not, as others have mentioned, look like a piece of vintage jewelry. The bail & decorative metal glued to the pendant looks like that of a matchbox car. It's metal, but kind of plasticity looking. I would have passed on it if I'd seen it in a store.

Clear, crisp magnification.
I was so sad to see that this is no longer available so soon after I purchased it. This is so awesome I wanted another to have a spare. Not only does it work amazingly to read the fine print on the bottom of antique treasure hunting or nutritional labels at the store, but it is attractive too. I have received many compliments on it and many inquiries as to where I purchased it. I wear glasses but my eyesight is not as good as it used to be and I need just a little assistance, and this works perfectly for me. You don’t even have to hold it close to your face to read! Which is really nice when your in public. I would purchase this item again and give as gifts to my “junk picking” friends!

Nice design, bigger than expected and heavy
I bought this for a friend that has trouble reading things like ingredients list on food labels. I shopped around here on amazon and bought her this one.I bought it because it was a nice design, seemed good quality and good price. It definitely is bigger and heavier than expected. But nonetheless she appreciated the gift and while she may not wear it as a necklace, I know she will still carry it with her to use! And it works well.

Practical for up close details.
Great back up plan for those always losing their favorite reading glasses! Heavier than expected, which feels nice in the hand for me. Maybe a little big for a petite frame. Perfect for reading restaurant menus in those ridiculously tiny fonts or when you want to read the ingredients of something in the grocery store and you left your glasses in the car... I wish the chain was longer. If the object of your curiosity is not really close you have to bend over in half to see anything with it :(

Handy, helpful tool for shopping at stores
This is a real glass magnifying necklace. Thick glass, heavy. I use it mainly when I go to stores so I can read price tags and ingredient labels. A guy was watching me use it once. He was really staring and I liked the attention. May help meet new people, who knows? Neato!

Beautiful, working magnifying glass necklace
I was leery to order this at first because I wasn't sure how nice it would be or if it would cause distortion when looking through it. However, it looks to be very well made and beutiful. Text is clearly visible through the glass and does not have the distortion I was worried about. It is also not overly obvious that this is a magnifying glass when worn, which I was also worried about. I'm excited to give this as a gift to my grandmother who is visually impaired!

NOT a 5X, or has very poor optics
I use a 6X pendant magnifier (I'm legally blind) that I get from Independent Living Aids. But it's very plain. I've gotten a more decorative 4X from them and it worked for most things. So when I saw this gorgeous 5X I thought it would be perfect for when I wanted to dress "nice" but still needed my mobile eye.Well, this is NOT a 5X. It's at most a 2X or maybe 3X. And the glass is not great quality or clarity either, so it's not real useful for me as a magnifier. It will only work on larger, or bolder text. I'm not sure I'm going to keep it.If you are buying this just to be decorative with a hint of usefulness for a senior who has a little trouble reading, than it might be ok. But be warned it's huge and heavy. My Grandmother would have trouble holding this in your fingers to read something.
