The Sony SLT-A77: The Unofficial Quintessential Guide

Best book on A77
I bought this book after reading David Busch's "Compact Field Guide for the Sony A77". What a difference! This book covered everything and taught me several things I didn't know even though I had been using the camera for several months. Anyone with an A77 or thinking of buying one should read this book. It is less wordy and covers items that even Gary Friedman's ebook does not touch. Particularly the parts on GPS and scene modes are much more thorough. Highly recommended.

A great guide
I enjoy it a lot. there where some "secrets" that I found very nice to know about my A77. It's not 5 stars becouse of some VERY basic stuff, that I didn't enjoy. Maybe for someone new to the digital photography scene, these parts would make sense, but than again, we're not talking about a begginers DSLR...

Good guide book if you are new to DSLT/A77
The book explains all the functions that A77 offers beyond what you can learn from the owner's manual. The guide is easy to read and comes handy when you need to figure out how to adjust settings etc.Even if you are a long-time professional photographer, but new to A77, still recommend this book since A77 has so many functions/abilities to produce great/different style photos.

The Sony SLT-A77: The Unofficial Quintessential Guide
Read Gary Friedman's - Sony's Alpha SLT 65 & 77 Cameras (.mobi or .pdf) and you will see why I rated the above so poorly. They do their best but it is obvious they are not really into Sony cameras and therefore do not appreciate the finer points of the A77. For instance, although the camera is excellent, it does not have great low light performance, it's weakest point. The authors do not point this out or how to work around it, as far as I can tell.

Very Useful Guide
As with any new, complex, electronic device, a good book takes the place of the meager 'Operating Instructions' that come with the product. This book really helped out when I purchased my A77. Just the right mix of complexity and simplicity. I really liked the practical guide parts the suggest useable settings on the camera. Well worth the price!

Not bad, but not perfect
I use the book as a reference. Not bad, but not perfect. There could be more information. It just gives a little more than the manual.

Waste of time!
This is a book that might be helpful if you just purchased the camera. It is mostly about how to take it out of the box. The text meanders - not answering questions or discussing how to do something. It says that you can do certain things but doesn't tell you how. I'm very disappointed that I wasted money on it. It's written like your Uncle Charlie was telling you about his new camera.

Très utile
Très bon ouvrage sur cet appareil photo, cela complete bien la notice d'utilisation qui est plutôt pauvre. Dommage qu'il soit entièrement en anglais.

Fantastic A77 camera
I owned the Sony A580 camera which is a great all round camera, I then purchased the Sony A77 which is evolution at its best The translucent mirror and electronic viewfinder are unbelievable. The speed of the camera 12 frames per second is second to none and the image quality is excellent. I am still learning to use this camera and enjoying every minute of it. The only fault i have found is that it could be better in low light.

Fabulous information, well presented.
It would have been super if there had been a card of some sort that I could have taken and used as an "idiot's guide" when out and about. The manner of the instructions is clear, and so honest, because not everything is ideal for the authors' use, and they say so. That gives so much credibility to the whole book.
