One of Us Must Be Crazy...and I'm Pretty Sure It's You: Making Sense of the Differences That Divide Us

My fiancée and I just completed premarital counseling by working together through this book. Tim and Joy Downs wrote the book as if they were addressing married couples, but it was still easy to follow along and actually served as a catalyst for a lot of potential issues we had never discussed up to that point. I really admired how the Downs were able to get to the root of a lot of commonplace disagreements or sticking points in relationships through one of their seven "differences that divide." It helped us to identify personal issues from our past and present that cause us to respond to disagreements in the ways that we do.The only thing that bothered me about the book was the writing style. I felt like the Downs tried a little too hard to be humorous and work "one-liners" into their dialogues of couples having disagreements. As the book progressed, the dialogues took on a noticeably hostile tone, which the Downs never addressed as being an inappropriate way to fight. Perhaps they assumed that most couples know better than to personally attack one another, but that's a pretty risky assumption to make when writing a book of this nature.

Same as the other books. Just check one out of your library.

I wish I could say this book was great, but I think maybe I am getting to the point where these sort of books aren't the "cure all" that they claim to be. It was a good book, and my husband and I made a great effort to read it together, but we found ourselves thinking it wasn't doing anything but giving us an excuse to critique it. Maybe we just didn't need to read it :)

Helps couples to accept one another's beliefs about parenting among other issues.

Right up my alley. I enjoy & relate to Tim & his wife's perspective & it allows me to see things in my own marriage from a different point of view. Glad I picked this little treasure up!

Was looking for a book on conflict resolution and purchased this one to have a look. This book is GREAT! It carefully explains why disagreements happen. I do not read very often but I couldn't put this book down.
