A bit boring
I was interested in the book mainly because I had lived in Canada for a very long time before we decided to do a coast-to-coast holiday. We got to do Island-to-Island, but didn`t take in Newfoundland as it meant a long sea journey and we had run out of time. We were given to understand, however, we had lucked out and it was our intention to do it again- only things got in the way.I found the Kindle edition very boring, peppered now and then with points of interest. I think it would be much better in book form as then the illustrations might break the monotony

All over the place
No doubt the author had a very interesting life. Pity he did not have a ghost writer. It seemed to jump from scene to scene, without any idea of how, what, why or when. Nice to read about a time gone by though. But I did skip a great deal.

The hero of Labrador
One of the most inspiring and interesting autobiographies that I have read in many a year. Grenfell's upper class English upbringing would seem an unlikely basis for his life's work among the struggling people of pre-Canada Labrador. The uplifting tenor and hope in his work and medical ministry had far reaching benefits for the extremely isolated folk in this sub-Artic region on Canada's Atlantic coast. His medical, sailing and people management skills were instrumental in many benefits he brought to his beloved patients and neighbours in a pre-WWI world with few of our modern advantages. A great read!

Amazing life and adventure story
Grenfell recounts an amazing life story. I loved his approach to helping the poor and sick - very practical and empathetic. He put religion aside and did what made sense. I found it interesting that NL had such a strong connection to the US and that the US provided a lot of financial and practical support for his work.
