376 pages of pedal awesomness
Imagine 4+ years worth of guitar, recording and electronic music magazines. Now imagine all the best articles extracted from those mags, polished and put together in one large book fit for display on a coffee table or studio credenza. On top of that, take a few of the best pages out of your electronics or music technology text books and sprinkle those into the book tastefully so you have a richer context for understanding these pedals.word of warning. this is a lot (376 pages) of detailed photos and in-depth and inspiring copy. do not try to read this just before bed. you will get even more excited about pedals, you will lose sleep.I wish I had this book when I was teaching electronics to musicians at NYU.

Informative and fascinating
Great interviews and overviews of the various effects types/categories with an emphasis on creative music making (or at least creative soundscaping). Great layout, great photos, and more. I've been playing effects pedals (via a guitar) since the 90s and I learned some cool new tricks from this book. May be a bit of a deep dive for a beginner, but really fascinating throughout. The only real downside is the breakneck growth in the field and there have been some groundbreaking effects released since this was published. Pair this with the old Analogman guide to vintage effects and your coffee table is complete.

Great Book, Amazon Packing Awful
Excellent book, richly illustrated, deeply informative, demonstrating the interrelationship of technology and art. Amazon packing is absolutely awful. Pack a book in a larger box with no filler material and the book gets damaged., what a surprise. Been an Amazon customer since they came into the world and over the last six months this kind of lack of care has become the norm rather than the exception. Demonstrates a complete lack of respect for the products they sell, the writers, the publishers and their customers. I don't know what's going on systemically at Amazon, but I recommend finding items someplace else first, rather than defaulting to Amazon. So depressing.
