Even the second half of the book, dedicated entirely to simply summaries of key characteristics of the most common birds of America, felt valuable but a breeze to read through. It give you a sense of what features/patterns of recognition are most comment when trying to single out a bird species from a set of similar-looking characters. The first half of the book also had a great introduction to how this works in abstract, as well as a good introduction to birding culture and various insider terms and concepts.s

I purchased this for a vacation because I wanted to pick up birdwatching. I'd read the book at my AirBnB and then apply what I learned when I was out hiking. I found this to be a fantastic resource at just the right level of detail. Even the second half of the book, dedicated entirely to simply summaries of key characteristics of the most common birds of America, felt valuable but a breeze to read through.
