Yes, my camera is a D5000. I purchased this as a spare so, have not used it a lot. It does work.

I have a nikon d5000 but my original battery says bp-el9 7.4v 1200 mah. will this work?

My camera, Nikon D3000, works well and charges with Nikon charger. Always carry 4 batteries, when out shooting. Also have the battery grip ( holds 2 batteries).
