Doomwyte: A Tale from Redwall Paperback – January 25, 2011

I have been a fan of the Redwall books since reading the early ones to my son. He is now a teenager, and I am STILL reading the Redwall stories. While Loamhedge is my favorite story, Doomwyte will come in a close second. This book reminded me of the early Redwall books - full of twists and turns, riddles and surprises. And a few sad chapters as well. In this book, as in all the Redwall stories, evil is truly EVIL, good is truly GOOD; friends are made and loved ones are lost. I would highly recommend Doomwyte to all real Redwall fans.

The Redwall series of books is well written and perfect for both young and young-at-heart readers. It’s a fantasy set full of adventures of good versus evil, coming of age, finding bravery and friendship, reveling in poetry and song, and feasting as if at the end of a ten season famine! Brian Jacques crafted wonderful friends and heroes ate Redwall Abbey, and you’ll enjoy meeting them again and again!

Don't listen to all the negative reviews. This is one of the best in the series. It would be my favorite ever if he hadn't written The Rogue Crew. Korvus Skurr (or something like that, the leader of the doomwytes) and his doomwyte bunch could NOT I repeat NOT be removed from the plot and have had it like it was. It would not have been called Doomwyte without having doomwytes in it. There are parts that would not have existed and the plot, unlike many protest, would have been incomplete without the doomwytes and snakes. For example, there would have been no Baliss without the doomwytes, and Baliss is huge, in more ways than one. A wonderful book, and the only reason that I can think of that a lot of other people are criticizing it is because they themselves were cronies of Korvus Skurr, and that they were jealous that the Redwallers won they criticized the plot. They are doomwytes!If you are one of those reviewers that I'm talking about that wrote a critical review, let me ask you this. Do you think you could write this story better? I doubt it.

I read these books growing up, and still go out of my way to pick up any new ones Mr. Jacques manages to crank out. Some of his later books were none-too-enthralling. His writing seems to sway drastically between solid and captivating, and sketchy and poor. I was weary of this book at first. It throws a lot at you and the plot seems far too fantastic at first, but he pulled through with tying it all together and making it work. I was surprised how much I actually enjoyed it! Although I'd like to know how he swung from names like "Martin" and "Matthias" and "Luke" to names like "Dwink" and "Furf". All the same, a good addition to the series.

Great bargain.

I've read all of the Redwall novels so I've become so familiar with the characters they seem like old friends. After all this time the books have blended together to form one really LONG story and it becomes difficult to distinguish between the individual books. That being said, Doomwyte is not my favorite of the series (my favorite is The Long Patrol). The story just didn't seem fresh and it had more of a "been there, done that" feel to it. Even so, Brian Jacques is such a masterful storyteller that he manages to bring such wonderful "life" to the characters that you can't help but become engrossed in their story. So even though Doomwyte wasn't my favorite of the series, I still couldn't put it down!

Doomwyte is another entertaining Redwall novel! I got it for my birthday from my younger sister and devoured it. It is as exciting as all the other ones I have read, and features a new conflict that doesn't involved rats. I really recommend it for ages of 9+ although those who are younger may enjoy as well (it depends on the reading level of the child)
