Lovely Microphone
Yes, it's a splurge. Really, you may ask yourself, how much different ... how much better could THIS mic be than my many other mics (which don't cost as much)? That's what I was wondering. I'm glad I splurged. This mic sounds great. It has a really clear, quite warm sound, and when using the cardioid pattern setting, the edges of the polar pattern are not distinct; in fact, you can lean back and take it easy in a very quiet room and get a stellar recording.I've been working on my vocals, and wanted to get the best initial tracks laid down with the best gear, so I can evaluate my vocals fairly, knowing "it's not the gear's fault." With this microphone I felt more confident than ever that the gear is doing its job properly, staying invisible and quiet. This mic delivers! I started out, years ago, with SM48s and SM58s, all affordable and reliable. Then I sang through a Shure Beta 87A at an open mic and was sold. So I went from $100 Shures to a $250 Shure and was super happy with the Beta 87A. I used it for many recordings in studio. Then I splurged and spent about $500 on a Shure SM7B. These are all popular mics and I'm sure I'm not alone. The SM7B was nice and steady, consistent, predictable. No problems but no wow. Then I super splurged and spend about $1500 on this Neumann. I've never heard a mic that sounded so tame. It's dumb-easy to use. Get your room quiet and your tracks will be as perfect as possible. I've got my Neumann 107 mounted on my desk right now, along with a less-expensive but more-wow Avantone CV tube condenser mic, to compare them. The Avantone is notably warmer, almost thick, while maintaining a fast response and nimble feel. Frankly I'd recommend both the Avantone as well as one of these Neumanns for your locker! Really nice mic!I've come to the conclusion that, as much as my purse doesn't like it, more expensive mics might just be worth it! I believe there's an entry fee to play in the same sandbox as the pros, which you can do today. While you certainly can get by cheaper, this key fits the lock and opens the door.

A worthy voiceover microphone that does more
I use this primarily for voice over at my home studio. I’ve owned many different professional mics and currently work in the industry.Animation studios I work with often want an unprocessed sound, so I ditch my usual strip channel processing and use this. This particular mic sounds FANTASTIC with my baritone-to tenor voice gigs I get hired for. It’s a neutral sound, but gives juuust a little more presence the Neumann is known for. It’s true to my natural voice. I like that it’s ever-so-slightly smoother in the midrange compared to the standard TLM 103 I also use. I prefer this mic now and studios love what I’m giving them.I plug this right into my MOTU M2 audio interface. I use that with my Mac, PC or iPad Pro if on the go.I set mine to cut at 100hz to remove unwanted rumble and pad -6db since I scream a lot in my projects. Even with the gain cranked up to capture whispers, there is very, very low self-noise in a quiet room or booth. The settings are made with a small metallic nub. You’ll need a well-lit view to set it the first time. Since it’s a powered mic a small led on the opposite end of the capsule shows you what settings are active. There are other polar pattern modes. I’m sure they work great but it’s not my main use. I have set it up to play guitar in an open room, but not in a professional manner like I do with VO.It also comes with a beautiful shock Mount that also works with the other TLM mics, including the smaller 102.After recording, post compression and cleanup sounds clean and useable for high end work with everything I’ve thrown at it.One other great thing about Neumanns; once you decide to sell, the aftermarket is great and you can resell it for very close to retail. They are made to last and generally improve with age. I haven’t tried to modify or repair, but everything looks easily accessible if needed.I highly recommend trying it out to test with your voice to compare against other heavy hitters. A worthy mic!

Just about perfect
I own more expensive mics, like the U87, but at around $1500, this it probably my go-to mic for vocals most often; I own two and they get the most work of all the mics in my cabinet. The tlm107 is sturdy, and its joystick interface for pattern (5 of them!), roll-off and sensitivity are intuitive – it pops on when phantom power is applied, and its setting is retained when powered down. It is available with one of the best designed shockmounts I've ever seen, one that makes my U87 or RE20 mounts seem a bit dodgy by comparison. While I love a great vintage mic, this design lets you know Neumann isn't resting on its history alone. Energetic vocals get a slightly crisp, defined edge, which I like a lot for some vocalists, though for someone with a rich or deep croon, I might still favor the 87 or a 47 depending. Nevertheless, this is a highly flexible, reliable mic. The tiniest nit I have to pick is that the nickel finish has a touch more grip than the black finish, which, while gorgeous, is very smooth and potentially more droppable. Yeah, that's my only critique.I still use a lot of C214s and C414s, a ton of SM7Bs and RE20s, but i'm using my tlm107s more and more.

Perfect.
It’s the best microphone I’ve ever owned. After doing extensive research, I finally decided on this microphone and found it to be a worthy replacement to my Shure SM7B.Works great even in a not-so-ideal studio that’s only partially sound treated. Doesn’t pick up sounds you don’t want it to and you don’t have to have your mouth almost kissing it. In fact, that would make it sound awful. Six to twelve inches away works just perfectly and it’s a good distance away that if you’re doing a video podcast or streaming it won’t get in the way of your face. You can hold it off to the side and angle it towards your face, but it even looks great on camera, so why hide it?
