Peak Design Leash Camera Strap

I bought a camera strap that had some pockets for spare batteries and cards, but found it got a bit uncomfortable when wearing it for a while, as it got quite hot around the neck - and was not able to extend as far as I wanted it to. After doing a bit of research online, I finally settled on the Leash from Peak Design - as all of the reviews I had seen were very positive of the product, and after looking at all of the straps available from them and other suppliers - decided that it was the most potential to give me what I was looking for. It is a bit pricy to be honest, but is very, very good quality and extremely comfortable - it is really 3 straps in one, and I found that for my Sony bridge camera, it is absolutely perfect. The connectors are very strong and easy to attach and dismantle, and there are 3 included along with a baseplate so you can but one on each side for wearing the strap over your neck - or one on the side and one on the bottom for wearing it like a sash (my favourite way) - which I was not able to do with my other strap. It is very compact and takes up so much less room that my other strap, or you could just put it in your pocket if you were going to use a different strap.....for any reason that I cant think of at the moment? I would imagine it would not be as comfortable with a large camera (please don't ask me if it will be ok for x camera - as I have no idea on them :)) and one of Peak Design's other products would be better suited - but for me, this is ideal. I am currently considering whether to purchase the hand strap for my small Sony camera as well - but if Peak Designs want to send me one to review - I would be more than happy to do so :) Summary - If you need a new strap for a small/med camera (with 2 anchors) - you could do a lot worse than this - bit pricy, but worth it!!

Really like this strap. Nicely lightweight, but not in a flimsy way. The fixings are secure and sturdy. I find the colour really chic, and the texture of the fabric is really nice. I use mine in the sling style - I'm an average/big-ish sized woman and I find it just long enough! If I was bigger I'm not sure the sling style would hang low enough, but it would be fine as a neck strap. The attachments are pleasingly secure. It's worth noting that the anchors are sewn in to the strap, so if you were planning on attaching them to a different strap you'd have to sacrifice this one, so you'd be better off buying the links and anchors separately (As I have done for my second strap!). I'm sure like me you've done all the research and have ummed and erred about these vs the other market leaders and cheaper knockoffs for detachable straps for your lovely new camera. I chose this in the end because the locking mechanism is satisfying and reliable, and the buckle was more slimline than the others and a bit more discreet. I'm glad I did.

I originally bought a 'ebay Chinese copy' of this so am already used to the type of strap. However, there is no comparison with regards to the quality difference between the 'copy' and the original. I have no fear of the mounts on the PD version snapping with out warning and the clips feel snug and don't rattle at all (the copy feels a bit 'tinny' and rattles a bit when the mounts are not in them). The strap does fell a bit stiff but I know from experience with the 'copy' that this will soften with use, and the PD strap definitely feels more comfortable (remembering that this is a thin strap so don't expect a 'heavy' camera to be comfortable for long periods, get one of PD's thicker straps for that and you won't be disappointed). The slider adjustments are a bit of a gimmick (most people set the strap and leave it at that length and are happy) but the more I play with it the more I can see me possibly adjusting it on the fly for certain situations, I just wouldn't say that it is a specific selling point that would specifically make me want to buy this strap. With regards to price, it is a bit expensive but you get what you pay for in terms of quality, and Peak Designs are continuously designing new equipment as well as improving their existing range so you have to also take that into account a bit. If 'cheap and cheerful' is what you are after then check ebay for the 'Chinese copy' but it you want something that is going to last and not have any worries about your camera's safety then the PD version is worth getting. I have no doubt that this strap will last for a long time.

I have two DSLR cameras; a Canon EOS 6D Mark II and a Fujifilm X-E3. I swap between them depending on what I'm doing and where I'm going. I also tend to swap straps on both quite regularly. If I'm using a long, heavy lens on the EOS I'll use a heavy duty harness slide-strap from Black Rapid because it takes they weight better and feels more secure. However, if I'm just out and about with the X-E3 I might use either a simple shoulder strap or a wrist strap, as they offer more flexibility. The problem with all this swapping around is that changing straps is a time consuming pain. However, when I read a review of the Peak Design Leash Camera I thought I might have found a solution to that issue. It turns out that I was right. The beauty of peak design's system is the way that their straps are attached to the body of the camera. Rather than threading the end of the strap directly through the eyelets on the body, you instead attach anchor links to the camera body and then clip these into connectors on the strap. The design of both elements make the connection between them about as secure as it is possible to be, and its almost impossible to incorrectly connect them. The anchor links are also standardised, and so will work with any Peak Design product. What this means is that I can have the small, unobstrusive anchor links permanently connected to both my cameras, and can simply clip the leash camera strap to whichever one I'm using that day. That way I only need to purchase one strap for two cameras. I have also purchased Peak Design's wrist strap, which uses the same system and can quickly swap across to this too. And when I want to use my Black Rapid slide strap on the EOS I don't have to spend any time detaching a shoulder strap first. One or Two clicks and the Wrist or Leash Straps are gone and I can attach my slide strap via the camera's tripod thread connector. By making it so easy to remove the straps I also don't have to worry about packing either camera into a bag with a strap still attached, saving space and making stowage a lot easier and neater. In terms of comfort the Leash Camera Strap is a significant improvement on the straps that come with most cameras. Its made from high quality, tough fabric and is easily adjustable. Its a little narrow and lacks a shoulder pad, so I wouldn't use it when shooting over a long period of time, but for casual use its absolutely fine. It will happily take the weight of my 6D Mk II plus a relatively substantial lens. If you want something designed for longer use Peak Design also offer the wider, heavier duty 'Slide' strap, which uses the same anchor link design. Overall, if you're someone like me with multiple cameras that they use for different things and in different ways, then any of the Peak Design straps will be useful. If you're looking for one specifically for casual use and with a reasonable price point then you can't go far wrong with the Leash version.

Very well made quality product, just what I was looking for. The design is practical with good functionality with my Sony A6000, as I don't like the standard strap that came with it. The sling strap is great and easy to wear with great fixing points for multiple adjustments. A bit pricey, but worth it; guess the manufacturer knows this hence charging what they do. A little annoying the packaging creates a few kinks in the strap, but nothing a damp towel and iron did not sort out to get it flat. Great sling, very happy.

OK, well lets be honest, almost all camera should have a strap on them, especially with the amount I've nearly (or actually) dropped over the years! However, the straps that come with the cameras usually have a couple of negative points. One, they almost always have the camera company brand name emblazend across them, advertising to the thieves and muggers what huge value you have around your neck, and often they are just too big! Especially if you are using a micro43 camera set up like I have now migrated across to. That is where this little gem comes in. You attatch the little buttons to your camera(s) and the small nondescript strap can easily be clipped onto and off the buttons. This has a few benefits that for me, justify the price. 1: I can have one strap for many cameras. The kit comes with 4 buttons, so I fitted to to my GX80 and 2 to my G80 and only need to pack one strap. 2: The strap itself doesn't advertise what camera you are carrying. In fact, if you have a small street camera set up hanging inside your jacket, the strap doesn't even shout 'Camera strap' at all. The other Peak Design straps have had problems with some of the smaller micro43 cameras, with the button chords being too fat for the strap loops. Well, these leash ones, do fit in the loops of the GX80, which is very small! Overall, a great bit of kit if you have a few micro43 bodies, and/or just want to ditch the mugger-magnet straps that come with the cameras.

Absolutely love this strap. It's very minimal an non obtrusive while still providing great comfort. Using the peak design loops makes getting the right fit perfect while out and about, I have one on the bottom and one on the right and have the camera hang under my left side while slung over my head and neck, makes grabbing the camera easy and quick to snap photos. It's made of a seat belt material and feels strong and sturdy while easy to slide over clothes without getting caught (like my old strap). I also like how compact this strap is and folds up very small. I pair this with a Lumix S5 (1kg with lens) and it handles it easy.

Easily holds my Canon r5 set up and feels safe. Let’s be honest, these straps are somewhat practical but they are very sleek and stylish. I’m not too keen on the metal buckle as it can scratch the camera over time, however, they just look so good and its just the right size, so the buckle is a small sacrifice. Would I buy it again, absolutely! And you should too if you need something light, stylish and something that fits into the excellent peak design eco system.
