It can be easily mounted either vertically or flat on stairs, pathways, gardens, mailboxes, decks, docks and fences. The battery allows the light to run for 9 hours through the night and automatically recharge during the day. The solar panel is capable of collecting solar energy even on cloudy days. You don't need to do anything because the light turns itself on at night and off during the day. These LEDs are more durable than traditional glass bulbs and are more efficient. Set Up and Installation A. Press the AUTO/OFF button, keep the light on AUTO model. B. Drill two holes of 7mm diameter into the stairs. The horizontal distance of the two holes is 76mm. Then insert the plastic stopple provided into the holes and screw in the screws into the wall so far that the bolt head protrudes about 5~8mm. C. Put the solar stair light on the screws (2pcs) and make sure it is stable. This is a 6-month review, as they're an outdoor product so it's worth knowing how they'll survive. The UK had a very wet late spring and early summer this year, and these lights were outside in all of that. They are all still performing perfectly, and there is no sign of any water ingress. They were very easy to install on wooden decking; one tip from me is to buy and use some high-quality screws, (I used no.6 size pozidriv, as the heads of no.6 screws fit in the rear slots perfectly) which will make installation easier and quicker. Before installing, I dismantled one of the lights to see how it was constructed, and whether the battery could be changed in the future when the daily charge-discharge cycle has reduced its effectiveness. I'm pleased to say the lights have a silicone gasket to seal them from water ingress (which I replaced carefully!), and also that they take standard AA rechargeable batteries, so when the batteries do eventually need replacement, it will be easy to do. These lights are good looking and made from strong pressed steel. I mounted them on the uprights of steps on decking, and they have survived being stepped on and knocked off their mounting screws, as well as the English summer, with no sign of damage. I decided to put these on my fence as well as my driveway, well, not actually on the driveway but on the house which is beside the driveway. Check out the video! If you're after a nice modern style to your back garden, whether these lights are for your wall or fence, then i'd very highly recommend these!! TIP: Don't install them as soon as you get them. Seems mine are not lighting for more than 2 hours now** A: Mine are still working fine after almost a year. But, I worked in electronics retail for quite sometime. Rechargeable batteries need to be replaced about every year to year and a half for the ones placed in production products. And there is no telling how long many products sit in a warehouse before sold. So sone may be close to end of life at time of purchase. Just be sure to replace with a durable long lasting batteries, so you dont have to do this every year. **Q: I am looking to instal these onto my dock posts, which are 6" round. Can anyone tell me the distance between the mounting holes? Thanks.** A: 3" I think it would be tough to mount them on a round post unless you wanted to look at mounting them vertically (assuming you would get enough sun that way). Also, I'm not sure if you are lake front or oceanfront, but if you are near salt water, you should coat them with some kind of rust proofing - for the 2nd batch I installed, I used a rust proof primer and then a clear coat spray paint. Otherwise, I am very happy with these little lights after 1 year. **Q: how many led does each light have?** A: Don’t know how many LEDs but they laminate our deck step very well **Q: Can they stay out in the winter i live in Cleveland.** A: I have left mine out in the horizontal cold rain and freezing temps so I would say yes. They are easy to install and I love the warm white lighting, I have the, lighting the side of my driveway. They are exposed to full sun all day so no issues charging. First problem I've noticed is that out of 6 lights, 2 are slightly defective. I have one which won't turn off during the day, not really a massive issue but it means it probably doesn't last as long at night S the others, although I've not stayed up to check! The second one only turns on for about 1 minute before switching off. If I press the Off/Auto button twice to turn it off and back to auto, it comes on, then goes off again after about a minute. It's pitch black outside, so there's no way it thinks it's daytime! This is much more of an annoyance, as only 5 of 6 are effectively on at night. For info, on a cloudy day they last for about 90mins before running out of battery.
