When I was little, my Dad told me the Willow Pattern's story - There is a whole story wrapped up in the picture.Skip to the end to avoid the spoiler...The building is a Mandarin's palace. He has a daughter (the girl) he also has an employee (the boy).The boy and the girl fall in love.When the Mandarin discovers this he is horrified because of their different social status.He sacks the boy and sends him away and builds a fence to keep them apart.The Mandarin arranges a marriage between the girl and a foreign duke - the marriage to take place when the last blossom falls from the willow tree.The duke arrives in his boat.There's a party - the boy gets in disguised as a servant and the girl and the boy runaway together - pursued by guards.They steal the duke's boat and escape to an island where they live for some time.The Mandarin finds out where they are and sends guards to get them - the guards find them and kill them.The Gods are so enamoured by the girl and boy's love that they resurrect them as birds.FinThis plate seems to be well made - it is sturdy without being heavy - the picture is sharp.I get the urge to buy more pieces.I realise now that I should have said something about the supplier.Very good. The plate arrived a day earlier than predicted and was very well wrapped - there's always some concern about things like crockery that it might get damaged in transit but there was no way that this was going to get damaged even with harsher-than-normal handling.

Bought got a little girl who was fascinated by the story of the pattern, along with a children’s book explaining the images. It’s nice and sturdy, with a clear pattern.

Love the pattern, I bought both dinner and salad plates, which, by the way, seemed to be different shades of blue when viewed on the screen, but I'm real life, they are the same shade of blue. A little thicker than I expected them to be, but still not as heavy as some of the stoneware or ceramic plates we have at home.

These plates match the Churchill dinner set I have had for years. I like that they are bigger than the smalll tea plates.

Perfect size for my dinner so technically not a dinner plate. Smaller but useful size and just right for me. I love them.
