I did read reviews on how to use it before it started so I didn't even look at the manual. I made sure it was WELL clamped in the rollers and although difficult to turn it made sure the score line mated perfectly. Then I used the bands 2 of them (although not sure I needed to) to give me a guide either side of the score line. Used freshly boiling water rotated a few times then used iced water then back to the boiling and POP it dropped off into the pan of water I'd prepared.It's a prezzie so I didnt use their sand paper but gave it a quick blast with 240/400/800 grit and although not perfect as I only sanded for a couple of minutes, it's certainly good enough to use. The bottle I used is Keo Beer and is around 4.5mm thick but imperfect as it goes down to 3mm at its thinnest but it still worked a charm. Wanted to check it to make sure it worked before giving it as a gift, now going to buy myself one!!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Once you get the knack it works perfectly *by D***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 September 2018* I set-to making some assorted height "vases" from a selection of bottles - wine, salad dressing, soft drinks etc - for a party. I enlisted the help of my husband as for me this was definitely a two-man job. We firstly found it hard to stabilise the bottle in the clamp firmly enough but with still enough movement to allow the cutting blades to circulate. We lost many many bottles initially as the end of the cut did not line up with the beginning - which cracks the bottle once separating with the hot / cold water. We found that if you put the bottle into a small pot or container on which you can rest the cutting jig, you get a better cut that matches up more frequently. We wasted most bottles by not cutting exactly level - the cut must end exactly where it started - as the instructions say you do hear a sharp "click" when you get that right. The method of pouring boiling water slowly over the cut (wear rubber gloves for protection and improved grip) then plunging into a container of water and ice - worked quickly and reliably. I am very pleased with the end product vases but I did spend some time hanging around our local bottle recycling banks to ask people if I could have their empties as we quickly ran out of bottles ourselves. I'm not sure what could be done to make the cutting process more accurate but do stick with it if you can as it is strangely satisfying when it works! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does the job! *by S***H on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 January 2018* After trying various ways to cut bottles including a small hand held glass cutter I gave up and bought this. Very easy to use and neat bit of kit! First 3 attempts weren’t very good but soon got the hang of it. Best way, for me, was use the bottle cuter to score a good line-my son has bigger hands than me and he just carried on scoring until the grinding noise stopped-then acetone soaked string set on fire till it all burnt away, then carefully into running cold water. Usually this did the trick, occasionally we then had to dunk it into very hot water then back into cold.
