One of the best pieces of gaming equipment I've ever bought :)
I bought the Asus VG248QE 24-inch 3D Monitor four months ago, and it is probably one of the best pieces of gaming equipment I've ever bought. Before this monitor, I never realised the significance of specs such as refresh rates and response times, but now I know the difference between gaming on a 60Hz 1080p TV and gaming on a 144Hz 1ms gaming monitor. My games appear on the screen more smoothly now than they did on my 60Hz TV. I used to sit at my desk and use my 42-inch TV as if it were a monitor, which although I got used to it after a while, it did make my eyes hurt a little bit sometimes since I had to stare at such a large screen for hours at a time. Now with this Asus monitor, that problem is solved as my eyes feel more relaxed when looking at the smaller screen, and I initially had doubts about switching to a screen that was almost half the size of my HDTV.What made me jump ship was seeing YouTube videos and people writing comments explaining how a faster refresh rate can give a gamer better reaction times and reflexes since the image will appear quicker than with a 60Hz screen, and I think that has rung true for me too. I have managed to improve my reflexes in online multiplayer games such as Gmod and Minecraft for example. I also find that it is significantly easier to keep my eyes on all parts of the screen since it is much smaller than my TV.One of my favourite parts of the monitor is the fact that you can tilt the screen to whatever orientation you like, which makes it very easy to put away when I want to switch over to my TV and watch a movie or some YouTube videos on a bigger screen. All I have to do is raise the monitor up, push it outwards slightly and then rotate it into a portrait position, which will then allow me to place my monitor to one side without it blocking a portion of the TV. This feature is also cool for tablet users since they can use the monitor to run apps in portrait mode on a larger screen, which can be done by plugging a Mini HDMI-to-HDMI cable from your tablet and into the HDMI port on the back of the monitor. The monitor also includes a DL-DVI port and a DisplayPort (unsure of what version of DP it is). If you wish to use the full 144Hz refresh rate this monitor offers, then you will need to buy a DL-DVI cable and use that to connect the monitor to your PC (or GPU) because HDMI is not fast enough to support 144Hz at a 1080p resolution. As for what settings you should use when you first set up your monitor, I used the same settings that Cam96 listed in their review:Monitor settingsStandard modeBrightness - 35contrast - 80Color temp - user modeR 96G 96B 96Trace free - 60ICC Profile:Asus VE248.icmNvidia Control PanelBrightness - 30%Contrast - 50%Gamma - 1.00Digital Vibrance - 73%Hue - 0However, I have found that using Theater Mode makes colours look way better, and my games look a lot sharper with Theater Mode in my experience. You can switch modes by pressing the S button at the bottom-right corner of the monitor (it's the first button from the left). The monitor also has a 1ms response time, which pretty much makes it trace-free, and so far I have not noticed any ghosting or any leftover artifacts appearing on the monitor, so it seems that the response time is very good with this monitor. Also thanks to its high refresh rate, the monitor has 3D support and is even Nvidia 3D Vision ready. I went ahead and bought a Nvidia 3D Vision 2 kit from Scan to go with the monitor, and although it does work I don't find myself using it too often. I really want to use it for watching videos and movies in 3D, but sadly my HDTV is not a 3DTV, and so I rarely use the 3D aspect of the monitor. I don't like watching movies whilst sat at my desk, I'd rather lie on my bed and watch them on my TV, so this is a minor setback for me personally. I will say that the 3D does work fairly well, as I have tried it with a few games and the effect is noticeable, although I think I will appreciate the 3D more with a larger screen. I'm considering getting a 3DTV for this reason. One last thing to note is that this monitor does include a stereo speaker in the back, and obviously it is not a high-quality speaker. It does get the job done, but if you want an immersive gaming experience, I recommend buying either a gaming/high-quality headset or surround sound speakers to enhance your gaming sessions as the stereo speaker in the monitor is average at best. The speaker can be pretty loud when you have it on a high volume though, and my dad even came and shut my door once since the speaker was so loud. That's another thing, you can only change the speaker volume by pressing the Menu button and finding the Volume meter in the settings. Would've been nice to have a volume wheel/controls alongside the buttons, but it's no big deal since I don't use the speaker any more, and I doubt most gamers will make much use of it.In conclusion, this monitor is absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this monitor to any gamer who is like me and is making the leap from 60Hz gaming to 144Hz gaming, as there is a very noticeable difference between the two, as well as this monitor providing phenomenal graphics fidelity to my games.

Amazing after a few tweaks
Bought this recently after a lot of looking around the interwebs reading many reviews and opinions as well as speaking to friends to find a decent priced gaming monitor. Many review sites rated it highly and other monitors with the same functionality appeared to cost more.Firstly if you are unsure if the jump to 144Hz is worth it in my opinion it totally is, not sure I could now go back to 60Hz gaming without feeling a small part of me has died. Also if you are unsure if your GPU could take advantage of it well, I currently run a 660Ti and in pretty much every game I have tested with it there has been no issue and framerates have been good enough for the increase in Hz to be noticable. For a comparison on the 60Hz and 120Hz debate there are plenty of videos on YouTube that are easy to find for a decent comparison but most of those do not do the difference justice in my opinion.Another huge benefit is the lack of ghosting images, I really hadn't realised how much images were ghosting on my old 60hz 5ms LG monitor, the difference here is also like night and day.The only real negatives I can confirm is that the default settings are pretty poor, when i initially turned it on I could have been looking directly at the light of a thousand suns, such was the level of brightness that the preset came as. I think my corneas have been burned.A bit of googling and it was relatively easy to find some decent presets as a starter on the likes of Tom's Hardware or whatever. For reference I used the following:-Splendid Mode: StandardContrast: 80Brightness: 35Color Temp: User *RGB: Red 96 / Green 94 / Blue 88This brought the brightness and contrasts down to a level that did not feel as though someone was blowtorching my eyes although the colours did appear a little washed out. There is a simple fix for this however by simply downloading an ICC profile for the monitor and installing via the instructions from the tftcentral website and I have to say the monitor looks great after that.It does come with a DVI-D cable but it is relatively short, I would recommend using DVI-D or Display Port if you are going to take advantage of the 144Hz as HDMI will not be able to cut it. If you plan on replacing the supplied DVI-D cable for a longer one then make sure you get a dual link one to ensure you get the full functionality (they are only around £5 for a decent one).If you are in the market for a new monitor and are looking at this and wondering if the jump to 144Hz is worth it then the answer from me is BUY IT NOW!!!If you are running a very old GPU or are using the monitor for non-gaming applications then I would suggest an IPS monitor at 60Hz.In summary this is a great monitor at a great price for the spec that is offered.

Absolutely Fantastic Purchase - Great For CSGO !
The media could not be loaded. I have been playing CSGO for quite some time now and heard many times how 144hz monitors make a lot of difference but I really didnt pay much attention thinking that it was mostly hype, however a friend purchased one and recommended for me to try it out.I did some research into it and found this ASUS VG248QE to be the best for my price bracket. On arrival everything was nicely packaged and protected well, very easy to plug in and set up, the only "work" I had to do is adjusting the settings as the picture is dull on default and for a TN panel this is to be expected. After making sure to select 144hz in the settings, I booted up my favourite game ( CSGO ) and I was blown away and to be honest I still am, I didnt expect a 144hz monitor to be THIS game changing, the picture is so much smoother and those times I felt I was missing out of frames playing on 60hz now confirms I was right, my enemy was "seeing more" for sure. This monitor is one of the best investments I have made for gaming, but beware if you really want to use this for heavy photoshop work and/or you work with images a lot then this monitor is not for you, I would say this is strictly for the gamer and it does a great job in its task. The ASUS VG248QE has a response time of 1ms, input lag time of 3.2ms which is very impressive. The monitor also comes with anti glare, In-Built Modules Nvidia 3D Vision 2 kit, 2 in built speakers, 170/160 Degrees Viewing Angle and Adjustability Pivot portrait view, swirl 45 degrees left/right, height 0-110mm, tilt 5-15 degrees front/back.I am super happy with this purchase and I would 100% recommend the monitor to anyone who wants a competitive edge when playing games.
