Book of Ideas - a journal of creative direction and graphic design - volume 1

Very nice and insightful book. The overall experience of reading it is very nice! Full of many useful insights and also offers practical advice on how to approach different situations when dealing with customers.

I am not a designer myself, but I work in a creative industry so understanding how designs come together, what elements to look at/for, appreciate, and notice is critical to me. Malinic's books, Vols. 1 and 2, have not only been extremely helpful and inspirational in my daily job, but they have also taught me a lot about detail, being open-minded, and being creatively brave. The books are written in such a way that you can read a page a day, get your dose of inspiration, and go about your business, or you can read it all at once if you prefer. The books are well written and enjoyable to read. Highly recommended if you are looking to bring that cutting edge to your profession!

Really lovely book containing some absolutely stunning work and lots of inspiring and well written pieces on design and life. My only criticism, and it is a small one, is that the combination of brightly coloured pages with small, light fonts in white make it quite hard to read in parts. This is a shame, because it isn't a case of 'style over substance' - there really is a lot of substance! Recommended.

A fantastically written book of one man's journey, experience and ideas of what it takes to follow one's passions for creativity and collaboration in the world of graphic design. The numerous and varied examples are more than enough to get the grey matter ticking and the creative juices flowing. I would highly recommend to anyone really. The sound advice offered is applicable across all industries and the humorous outlook and examples make it a delight to read. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge Radim.

This book is an absolute joy to read - full of well-considered and experienced insights and thoughts about being a working designer. I took the book on my commute with me and dipped into a couple of pages at a time:; the creative insights and ideas were perfect to prime my mind for a creative day ahead. The book also features examples of Radim's absolutely gorgeous work and it was very inspiring to get inside Radim's mind AND see the work that he produces. Highly recommend for creatives, at any stage of their career.

Simply put, anyone who's considering a career in design needs to get this book. Radim is a distinct and incredible creator and this book showcases his honest, genuine, self-aware and undeniably unique approach to his work, his life and the creative industry. It's a beautiful publication, from the font choices, to the colours, to the examples of his work - I was infinitely inspired and jealous (in the best possible way) of Radim's vibrant portfolio in equal measure. Ultimately, this book gave me the nudge I needed to bin the excuses and chase after my aspirations of becoming a graphic designer. For that reason I can't recommend it enough. Looking forward to Book of Ideas Vol. 2!

As a source of inspiration, this book is awesome and would fully be worth buying for that alone – but that's just where it starts. There's a stupid amount of incredibly crafted and varied work in here (I assume he doesn't sleep), something to get you fired up for almost every type of project BUT the crucial thing is...that's all just bonus. Its true worth is in the insights and creative philosophies gleaned from a long career and its many inherent challenges. That's the kind of valuable and, more importantly, applicable knowledge that takes years to figure out on your own. Those lessons are the gold-dust that everyone else seems to shy away from in these kind of books, much to my frustration. Full respect to Radim for being so open and generous. Get involved!

Great book but the text is too small to read especially on the coloured pages. Shame as the copy is insightful.

der günstige preis hat mich etwas skeptisch gemacht, umso größer die freude als ich malinics projekte und texte durchsah. ich habe gleich 2 weitere bestellt um sie freunden zu schenken. das buch besticht schonmal durch den frischen druckerei-duft, das cover ist matt foliert und wirkt somit sehr wertig.

I loved how Malinic delivered such personal stories of growth and tribulations from such an encouraging stance. His attitude was heart warming and the visuals to accompany the short chapters made for a sensational read.

It's OK, but I was expecting a bit more. I felt as though it was more of a showcase of the work. Also felt like it could be better writen.
