WD 3 TB Elements Portable Hard Drive

This Western Digital 2TB hard drive has been a regularly used piece of tech for me for the last 5 years. It's size and weight is excellent, nicely light and portable without feeling flimsy. Build quality is good and I've had reliable use of this for the whole time I've had it. It's easy to use, just a straight plug and play on my windows laptop into the USB A port. The cable is sturdy and well made. File transfer is very good, it seems to be quite quick both transferring to and from my laptop, even when stacking a large number of files and transfers. Your mileage will vary depending on your computer speed too, but I've been very pleased with the speed of this device. The storage size of 2TB is perfect for my needs and seems to be in the sweet spot for having a good storage capacity while also being reliable and portable. The current listed RRP is very good value for the quality of this drive. Highly recommended.

I was in the market for a portable hard drive as my laptop has limited storage. Additionally, working on multiple devices, it is an easy way to transport documents, enabling them to be opened and edited at a time and place to suit. WD was a brand recommended to me by the technician who services my computer equipment, so I felt confident in selecting the brand. After reading up on a number of alternatives I decided on 1TB unit by Western Digital. This was competitively priced and wasn't much more expensive than one with half the capacity, so it was a no brainer. Once opened, simply plug in to your device using the USB lead provided and away you go. For example, if you have a word document open that you wish to save to the drive, simply press “save as”, locate the WD on your control panel, open the folder and click “save”. I have to say that this is perfect for my requirements. The unit is very compact, has a large memory capacity and stores all of my personal and important documents off of my computer’s inbuilt storage. It has also increased the speed of my laptop by transferring these documents from my computer, which was an added bonus. Best Uses : To free up space and back up your laptop’s (or other device’s) internal hard drive. Pros : Excellent value, compact size, easy to set up, sleek, compatible with Windows 10. Cons : None. I purchased this unit so that I could backup a lifetime of old photos and videos, and to make it easier to view them on our TV. I particularly like the fact that it is powered via the USB connection so you don't need an additional power lead. I was surprised to be able to get such a large capacity (2Tb) on such a compact format and at such a low price. This external Storage has made life so much easier for me. It's fantastic literally straight out of the box and go. No set up, no fuss. The hard drive itself has excellent storage and I have had absolutely no problems with it. Would highly recommend.

As a non techie person I have been meaning to back up all my personal data files and a large amount of jpg photos taken over the last 10 years, most of which are currently scattered around the house on various CDs. The WD drive arrived in 4 days and was simply plug and play. There was no need to download any software as all as all I need is a removable external backup which I can keep in the home safe as security. The WD is excellent, nice and small and compact and the whole backup using a USB 2 port from the laptop only took half an hour or so, just plugged it in and away you go, could not be easier. It is nice and small so would be easy to carry with you if needed (note I put my name and mobile on the bottom in case I leave it anywhere). No external power adapter needed as it runs off the laptop USB port. The 1800 mega bytes (2TBs)have hardly been dented by the whole jpg download, abosolutely massive storage for what I needed, so will last forever at current usage.

he drive works well so far (less than a week's use). However I note previous reviewer mentioned that the transfer rate was below par averaging on 40-45mb/s. I found the same with mine, this is well below USB3 specs. By chance I decided to swap the USB3 cable from my old 1TB WD element drive and the speed shot up to 80 - 90Mb/s. that being said he hard drive is nice and compact for taking it wherever you need to. I'm not going to write about how fast this drive is to the nano second, just know its much faster than USB2, which is good. I only have 1 warning for people who want to use it how I intended to use it, which was to have ALL my media (films, pictures, music, etc) on one drive, then plug it into my LG smart TV and have everything to hand through my TV. I found that a lot of the films were very jerky and un-watchable therefore to overcome this I had to split the drive into 2 smaller partitions of about 500GB and 1 large partition of about 1TB and all the films went back to being watchable. I assume this isn't the hard drives fault, its probably the TVs USB controller not being suitable for such a large drive, therefore the drive still gets 5 stars. Just to clarify, the jerky film thing was only when it was connected to my TV, when it was connected to the PC I didn't have any problems and didn't need to partition the drive.

Excelente producto tengo 3 meses con el y ningún problema asta ahora. El tamaño es excelente para llevarlo cuando sea necesario y siendo USB 3 mejor aun. En cuanto a la entrega, no se podía rastrear desde otra fuente que no sea amazon.Pero llego a tiempo.

Desventajas: + El disco duro está soldado al conector dentro de la carcasa. + El LED permanece encendido en todo momento. Conclusión: He usado a diario el disco durante meses con excelentes resultados. Es rápido, cómodo para el transporte y no he experimentado ni un solo fallo. Es un disco duro pequeño, recomendaría comprar un case o guardarlo en una funda ya que se ve que el material es delicado, fuera de eso si eres una persona que no lo trae de arriba a abajo es 100% recomendable, cumple su propósito, la marca Western Digital habla por si sola. Su velocidad de transferencia es buena y en general es un excelente producto para mi propóstio. Si buscas algo más rudo tal vez debas buscar otro producto, ya que este no es para uso rudo.

Muy buenas. Tengo este disco duro ya que me lo regalaron mis padres por reyes. El disco duro es perfecto ya que tiene un tamaño astante reducido pero tiene una gran capacidad. En mi caso es el 1 TB. Es muy rápido tanto cuando se meten archivos en él como cuando tienes que leer algun documento desde él. el puerto USB es 3.0 aunque también te sieve para un pc con USB 2.0 por ejemplo. Tiene un led que parpadea cuando se encuentra leyendo (que es siempre mientras lo tienes conectado). Es cierto que el led es un poco molesto cuando estas viendo una película y tienes la luz apagada, pero yo le he comprado la funda de neopreno oficial que vende la marca y puedo utilizar el disco duro con la funda puesta ya que solo abro la cremallera lo justo para que salga el cable. Tiene un peso bastante reducido y acorde al tamaño que tiene a pesar de la capacidad que tiene. Otro punto interesante que trae es que al comprarlo te regalan una prueba gratuita de 2 años de 50gb en Dropbox. En definitiva, el disco duro que todo el mundo se compra, y por algo será. Buena calidad y buen precio.
