Okish the shoulder pad is literally a piece of thin rubber. We put on a better one. Just long enough falling at the hip just. Nylon rather than heavy cotton webbing and the lobster claws would not take any great weight. Bought for an overnight bag where existing strap wasn't long enough to go crossbody which is my preferred way to distribute the weight. But for all that it was the best offering on amazon that didnt come on the slow boat!

Metal, yes metal with good spring connections, on a fabric hardwearing strap of excellent length for a lappie bag and made in britain.Highly recommended.

It's a strap. It works but the shoulder pad on the strap is placed such that it can only be on the shoulder if the strap is set to a very long length at which point it'll be down somewhere by your thigh. It you're happy just to let the "bare" strap hand on the shoulder, no problem.

so it just came undone after a week and my laptop bag fell down - causing damage to my work laptop.I would not recommend this item at all.
