This lens saved my camera - read the description!
Before buying this lens just be aware that it is a micro 4/3 lens which means it will only fit M4/3 camera (Lumix G and such) it won't fit full frame or APS-C without an adapter! Additionally M4/3 crop factor means that while this is a 25mm lens it is actually the equivalent to 50mm on a full frame camera. Before I talk about what I like and don't like about this lens let me give you some context. (skip to the end for pros and cons) Earlier in the year I purchased a Panasonic Lumix GH5 with the standard 12-60mm f/3.5 kit lens. I mainly use it for personal photo and video work, but have done some semi-professional projects with it too. And, while the kit lens is good it isn't amazing. It doesn't quite give you that professional outcome you desire when purchasing an expensive camera. I never quite got the bokeh effect (background blur) I wanted. I was a bit disappointed, and even thought about getting a new camera, since this wasn't giving me the result I wanted. Additionally, I'm fairly new to this, and I know with the right know-how you can make even a cheap camera create amazing results, but I am still developing that skillset. Fast forward a little, I did some research and looked into buying a new lens. I came across this 25mm (50mm equivalent) f/1.7 and realised it may give me a slightly better result. Safe to say it absolutely did. This lens completely saved my camera from being traded in and gave me the professional quality I sought after. The images included were all taken with this lens and have not been edited. I couldn't believe the result all from slapping it on and using autofocus. So let's talk about what works: - Outstanding picture quality - Quick and reliable autofocus (I have also tried this with video and the results blew me away) - Amazing bokeh effect - can't stress how impresses I was with this - Definitely great value for money What could be improved?: - Colours look a bit flat (honestly this could just be the way I have my camera set but things just don't look too vibrant) - made of plastic - not really an issue for me but if you're particular about your lenses then you may want to spend more on a metal lens. But as I said, to me this doesn't really matter. Hope this helps anyone researching cameras and lenses. If you have a M4/3 and want a lens to create a great bokeh effect for photo or video then you can't go wrong with this one.

Outstanding lens and value - great purchase for anyone with a kit lens!
Outstanding lens and a no-brainer purchase for a Panasonic G80 owner. Yes, the image quality is a noticeable step-up from using the 12-60 kit lens at the same 25mm length. 25mm on an M43 system is equivalent to 50mm on a full-frame system - which is the length that's meant to be more similar to the human eye's perception. Hence, its the recommended first prime lens you buy. Great all-rounder. Nice for natural portraits (not as much isolation as a longer portrait lens). Light, quick autofocus and great ability to capture subtle lighting. It's also half the price of any other F1.7 lens in Panasonic's range. It's an obvious first-purchase for anyone who owns a Panasonic M43 camera with a kit lens. I'll get a wide angle prime next and will mainly switch between the two.

another first rate Lumix lens
First rate lens. Primarily used in low light situations or if I want a bit of bokeh. If I don't need a wide aperture then I normally use the kit 12-60 lens which is equally good. It is not stabilised but my cameras have IBIS and it's only 25mm so it doesn't really matter. Most of the time I use a tripod anyway.

Sharp, lightwieght, Panasonic lens
I bought this lens to use on a G7. The pros: Its light, its fairly sharp and the auto focus works quite well. The cons: It does not achieve that shallow depth of field look that well (bokeh) unlike some lenses that Nikon or Canon make. It has a manual focus ring, but it has an internal auto focus too. Unlike older lenses and pretty much all manual lenses, there is no absolute focus based on distance marked on the lens barrel. This is a bit of a problem for video if you use a separate follow focus, because if you want to focus on something 10 feet away and then gradually focus to it moving in a shot to say 6 feet away, there is no guarantee you can do that on this lens as you might want if you use a follow focus. The lens is clever in that it can focus on anything when you press the screen automatically - but this feature can hinder manual focusing as it sort of resets itself. Like some of the other Panasonic lenses, the footage is quite contrasty and limits the dynamic range you get in the footage. Dark colours are often maxed out into blacks. It means video footage from this lens is more limited for colour grading. Finally the price. Its kind of mid range at £150. There are there nicer lenses out there for sure. But if you have a Panasonic camera, shoots stills and some video and don't need to manually focus a lot, the pros may outweigh the cons for you.

... this lens for my Panasonic G7 and I'm so glad I did
I purchased this lens for my Panasonic G7 and I'm so glad I did. Firstly, the built quality is excellent for something in this price range. The body is plastic, but it feels very solid and the mount is metal. The focus ring is buttery smooth and the lens itself is very light, but doesn't come across cheap. It comes with a lens hood which looks a bit excessive but it does the job, and it's nice of Panasonic to include it in the box *cough* Olympus *cough*. The image quality on this is fantastic. Even when shooting wide open, it's very sharp and there's barely (if any) chromatic aberration. The sharpness improves even further at F4 and F5.6 and it's very usable up to F16, though I wouldn't go any further than that. There can be some slight vignetting but it's nothing to worry about, and I like to add some in post production anyway so it's no concern for me. Of course one of the main reasons for getting this lens is the shallow depth of field, otherwise known as "bokeh" and this lens certainly does not disappoint. If you look at the example images, you'll see the creamy soft background, and you don't need to shoot wide open to achieve these results, just get closer to the object. To sum up, it's a fantastic lens at a fantastic price and if I was looking for my first 25mm (50mm on a full frame) fast prime lens I would look no further than to get this. Just do it. P.S. If you want some more image examples you can check out my YouPic page, I use this lens much more than the G7's kit lens. Link: (...)

Images seem over exposed in some situations
I am still a little unsure about this lens after using it for ten months. Sharpness is great and I have made some lovely images with it. However, it does seem to behave oddly with my OM System EM-10 mk IV in certain situations such as bright, high-contrast scenes like landscapes with land and sky. I find such images often turn out way too bright even with plenty of exposure compensation. Often the image comes out significantly brighter than shown in preview. This does not happen with my Olympus or TT artisan lenses at the same focal length. That said, in low-light it performs superbly and I'm sure it will be great for street photography at night.

Sheer joy
It has been a joy to use. Yes, it is plastic but that means it is wonderfully light. Paired with my G100 I have had a great time with the lens. When I bought my first serious camera (Canon A1) in 1981 almost every SLR came with a 50mm lens (unless you chose to trade up for a zoom). It was great to reconnect with the 50mm perspective. Perfect for architecture and topographical and landscape photos. Great for portraits. This, as I say, has been a joy.

superb results !
I'd read all the reviews and watched the you tube clips before I decided to send for this lens so was expecting great things from it . Im not disappointed in anyway now its arrived and is on my lumix G6 , it really is has fantastic as they all say and for this price such a superb lens seems a steal ! The quality of build is really nice and solid with a metal mount and silky smooth manual focus ring so it really looks the part and certainly looks a million times better than the 12-32mm Panasonic pancake zoom its replacing , image quality is top draw and focus speed is instantaneous , its staying on the G6 from now on as its standard lens and the little zooms going on ebay , I always loved the zoom with its sharp results but this 25mm prime is in a whole different league entirely , My advice is if you own a Olympus or a Panasonic mft camera and are considering this lens just press buy now and sit back and wait for the best lens youll ever buy at this price , its a total bargain .
