This is because they can screw into the base. Attach the perches first then insert. Insert the Allen key into end of the perches to undo. Ridiculous not to have a recess for the nuts as you have to try and hold them with one hand while turning the bolts. **Q: Does the feeder have a screw thread at the bottom to allow use in a large bird feeder guardian (Jacobi Jayne) thread size about 20mm diameter?** A: Hi John,yes the gardman feeders have a screw thread fitted,though in my experience they are not always compatible with other brands. Its raining here now so i'm not going into my stock room to look but tomorrow i'll double check the feeder and guardian will fit together. **Q: Dimension** A: Sorry about my previous answer. - wrong product. This one is great and is about 30 - 32 cams tall and the squirrel cannot get to,it to wreck it **Q: Can anyone tell me where I can get the tray that fits onto a guardman seed feeder please** A: Sorry but unless you find someone on amazon selling one,you probably won't get one. Gardman discontinued this a few years ago and whilst their are other tray brands available, gardman have a different thread size on their feeders so difficult to match them up.
