Q: For a beginner on a budget, Obviously these would be better but how would something like the MTA-30X or MTA-20X compare for videography monitoring?

I bought these precisely for videographic monitoring and consider my choice an excellent one. They're light, strong, compact, have good attenuation of external noise, comfortable in use and around the neck between use, don't require powerful preamplification so will drive well from cameras and/or mobile digital sound recorders (e.g. ZOOM) etc. etc.They have a pretty much perfectly flat tuning, so you can hear exactly what you're recording.They're ideal.As for comparison to other models/makes, I can only go by the resources I have, that is; check out "SonicSenseProAudio" on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMyZJifcyFLUjQv553QTQ8wThey provide comparison videos that allow the listener to actually hear the difference between products (using some very clever and high end recording techniques) - and see specifically this video which compares the ATH-M(50, 40, 30 and 20)X series:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sj69-mWHV3E:-)

Q: How do these compare with the ath-m50x, how is the Â£60 difference justified?

Ok I have the M40X and are a great headphone. The comparisons are as follows: M40X weighs 240grms, M50X 285Grms. M40X swivel to around 90 degrees while the M50X swivel to 180 Degrees. Fequency Response of M40X = 15-24,000hz and M50X =15-28,000 hz. Impedance on M40X = 25ohms and M50X = 38ohms. Drivers for M40X are 40mm while M50X are 45mm. You also get an extra 1.2 m cable with the M50X. Reason I bought the M40X is that they give a more neutral sound across the low, mids and highs where the M50X reduces the low and high meaning that you get a slightly deeper bass but reduced highs. I prefer neutral and so I can EQ the sound how I want to and if I record then I know it is flat across hte whole range.Hope that my answer helps

Q: Any reason some people are saying they are uncomfortsble and fatiguing to wear?

I have not found them uncomfortable. When I first got my headphones I placed them over the box to stretch them and left them overnight because I have a larger hat size. They have been fine since, are comfortable and only warm the ears and not roast them unlike some headphones.
