Does this box have a tray with separate compartments for different colours or is it just a large box? Thanks.

It's one large box with no compartments - my seven year old nearly eight loves it, we have the two Lego storage heads too... 

You can separate the different levels ( in a modular for example) and store them. You can stack them back when you want.

How much does it weigh?

Never weighed it but not too heavy. Lid is quite cumbersome to get on and off though. Especially for children!
