Q: Does the creamy layer contain milk or is it just a frothy top?

The frothy layer produced by the dolce gusto machine is called the "crema" but does not contain any milk or cream, so the answer is it's just a frothy top. The pods contain ONLY coffee!

They do both normal and lungo decaf.

Q: Is the coffee decaffeinated with the Swiss water method?

I also was interested in this as I don’t like the idea of any Chemicals in my coffee so I enquired with Nescafé Dolce Gusto and promptly received the following reply: Great news! Our decaffeinated coffees don't contain anything that isn't already found naturally in coffee. They're prepared using the water extraction method. In this process, water - rather than a chemical solvent - is used to dissolve the caffeine from the coffee beans. After drying, the beans are blended and specially roasted to give the full flavour of Nescafé Dolce Gusto coffees.

I find the taste is pretty much the same regardless of the cup/ mug size. But if you are using a very large mug (like say a 'Verdi' from Starbucks) you may want to add 2 pods? If you use an extremely large mug and want 2 pods, watch for the coffee to turn to water, (on average half way through pouring) and replace the used pod with a new one.
