Ideal for reducing calories and carbs!
So before I start I should say that I'm not giving this 5 stars because it is a perfect replacement for rice and tastes just like it. It doesn't. HOWEVER, if you are trying to save a bunch of calories, or are being low carb, then this definitely has a place in your diet. The packet contains the 'rice' which is in water, a fairly smelly kind of water, but the first thing you need to do is give it a good rinse using a sieve. Hold it under a running tap for a few minutes and then give it a squeeze (I use a tea towel) to get rid of all the moisture. The rice itself is tasteless, but you add a sauce like you would with normal rice. I like to dry fry it with an egg to make egg fried rice, and it is lovely with some stir fried chicken, plus a sauce like hoi sin. It massively reduces the calories and carbs and really tastes nice. It is less firm than normal rice.So in summary, it is great for people on a diet, particularly low carb ones.

Amazing rice
These shouldn't really be getting any negative reviews, when you open them no they don't smell amazing just like many things don't before cooking. But they are so versatile and absorb the flavour of what you cook them with. I flavour my rice with curry bowder herbs spices vegetables you name it. I find they are not only delicious but are really really helping me with my low calorie low carb diet. They are a god send. Definitely worth trying and just like any food it's what you make of it that makes it.

Pricey brand, ok quality, add flavour, it works.
Expensive compared to other similar products. Taste is similar. I like the konjac rice & it’s good for calories and fibre. I use another brand a lot but bought this when the other was out of stock. Konjac is a bouncy sort of texture, doesn’t really taste of anything but will soak up other flavours and is very filling. Beware the digestive results of having it too often. For me, every other day was as much as my system could take. I do however recommend it for weight loss.

Horrible!
I gave all mine away to my daughter who seems to like it. The thought of eating any more quite frankly makes me feel sick. The fishy smell still remains even after running under water for some time (and several times) and that's a real turn off. Add to that the texture which is like chewing rubber bands and it really isn't appetising at all. A much better option is to eat whole grain rice, use less of it and with a smaller plate! The only version of this stuff which even resembles anything edible is the pasta but all of it is made in China which raises my doubts about what is really in it. I suggest you try one bag and not £25 worth like I did.

It`s not rice, but it`s good
It`s hard to know what to call something that it is made from konjac flour; and I think if you have your mind set on the taste and texture of rice, this will not be right for you. My low-carb lifestyle is very good for me (health-wise) but I miss rice, particularly with curry, so felt this was worth a try. Zero carbs, zero everything, hard to believe it can be edible! But it is, very much.Firstly, the odour is not pleasant when you open the inner pack, and I rinse it under the tap for a minute or so in a sieve before even thinking about using it. To cook it, the pack mentions microwaving, but I`ve opted to put it in a hob of a very small amount of boiling water (50 ml) for about two minutes, and then drain again. The only thing that surprised me was the texture. It is quite rubbery initially, but once it is cooked this isn`t noticeable, and it has such a neutral flavour it quickly absorbs the taste of whatever you have put it with (curry sauce in my case). I think it`s a very reasonable alternative for anyone watching calories, watching carbs, whatever you`re watching; this is definitely worth a try.

A few minutes' boiling is a must to remove the fishy smell.
I am Japanese, and this Konyaku (Konjac, as pronounced here in the UK) products are in our everyday meal where I am from. The Konyaku/Konjac stuff needs a couple of minutes of proper boiling and draining to remove the unpleasant fishy smell prior to cooking. It is not a smell actually coming from any fish, but from the type of plant (potato) it is made from. Simply rinsing it in tap water just doesn't do it. Your kitchen may stink for an hour or so, but it won't last. If you find the texture a bit odd to start with, cook with equal amount of regular rice (that's the calorie halved already), and you won't really notice it. A lot of Japanese people do this half & half method for dieting and it does work.

Would buy again
Tried this now, definately needs rinsing before cooking as smells vile. After rinsing and heating tastes fine. Not rice, more chewy but a good replacement, very filling. Will buy again.

Zero carb, Ultra low calories
I've had this and the pasta. The pasta is pretty vile to be honest. Its nothing like pasta, nothing like penne (its not a tube) and has the consistancy of calamari. Compared to that, i was pleasantly surprised that the rice was quite a lot better. It was more like real rice than the pasta is like real pasta. Yes, on its own it's not great but mixed with a sauce its actually ok, and of course, its extremely low fat and carb free so i've re-ordered more. Both are made from Konjac flour whatever that is, and it smells strange coming out of the pack but that disappears when it's cooked so its not a problem.

Healthier to eat!
Grew up eating lots of rice. Was doing some research on a healthier version to eat and came across this one recommended from a healthy expert. Once you add your own flavor, it’s very good.

Bad odor
After following the microwave instructions, the smell left my house smelling really bad. I could not eat it due to the bad odor.

Besides that the product is really nice. Has hardly any flavor so it can be ...
the package says the product will have a 'faint odor' upon opening.... well... this is an UNDERSTATEMENT.... once i opened the packet i was hit by a strong fish STINKY smell... However, just as noted on the product, rinsing it under cold water got rid of the smell. Besides that the product is really nice. Has hardly any flavor so it can be used in a variety of ways and gives me the sensation of eating actual rice (i am on a no-carb diet)... I will buy it again but i wish it was available in stores. It is not really cost effective or practical to use long term.

It wasn’t good at all
I only eat one out of the 5 pack, I didn’t like it all. It wasn’t good at all, the remaining 4 is just useless
