SanDisk Clip Jam 8GB MP3 player - Green

I'll try to write this review as one parent to another....I was a little sceptical buying this player for my 9-year old son with his birthday money as I had been burned by so many other sub-£50 devices. As it turned out I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only was this player simple to use but the sound quality was clear and the battery life phenomenal. To date we have charged this player just once (my son listens to it most nights for stories using a pair of speakers) It also has a sleep setting which he have set at 30 minutes so it shuts down automatically. I was also pleased that the charging port is the same as android phones (Micro USB) which saves having to keep track of a specific cable. Another good feature is you can play by folder. This means so long as your audio book files are sequentially named it will play them in order - A huge plus over players that can only play by album or artist and then miss files out if album data is missing from them. I was also pleased with the file transfer rate from my laptop. With previous players it has taken upwards of an hour to transfer around 6GB of music. With this player it was done in just over 10 minutes (although this seems to vary depending on cable quality and whatever dark arts Windows 10 is doing at the time) Another plus is the colour - being orange it is easy to spot when it falls down the back of his bed. another Plus is it is fairly rugged. I've accidentally stepped on it twice and it hasn't broken (which is more than can be said of my phone!). so all in all an excellent little player.

EDIT: I wrote the review below shorrly after purchasing it. Less than a year later it's completely stopped working so no, I no longer recommend it!Really pleased with this, it works a treat and is fantastic value for money compared to other mp3 players available.Pros:- great battery life- decent storage- easy enough to use once you get used to a few little quirks (eg my old player stored all files together - this one separates music, audiobooks and podcasts into different folders, but doesn't always get it right)- so tiny! (see photo) this is a plus for me as it like it to be unnoticeable in my pocket. But I guess it could be fiddly for some- when you switch it on, it remembers where you stopped listening last time - very handy with long audiobooks- the clip is handy to keep it in one place and stop it mating with your keys etcCons:- to get the volume louder than a whisper you have to go through and annoying permission screen where it reminds you that high volume can damage your hearing and asks you to authorise max volume. This happens EVERY time.- something a bit odd about the lock button - it seems to sometimes skip a track when you lock it? Annoying with audiobooks. But might just be me.

This is a great simple MP3 player. I have had one for 3 years and now my wife wanted one so I bought this. It is very lightweight, uses the same micro usb connection to charge and connect to a pc as does my phone and tablet, it is a drag and drop facility for mp3 files - none of that silly Apple nonsense. Mine has been reliable and I love its fantastic battery life. It basically does for me on long journeys (music, podcasts and audio books) where I can preserve the battery life in my phone, and during exercise where the clip performs really well providing it is clipped to something more than very lightweight clothing. I use my phone for Bluetooth and Spotify and I guess the absence of internet and bluetooth is what helps make it so light, inexpensive and useable. The supplied headphones are useful for setting up but I use a set of soundmagic in ear phones for listening and like the sound quality. It has radio but I have never used it.

I bought my Clip Jam because I am getting hard of hearing, and thought that this would be a good way for me to listen to the radio. I have been very pleased with the clarity, and it does just what I wanted. It is so useful when I am out in the gardenI then decided to add some of my favourite CDs, via my laptop. This was very easy to do, and again I was very pleased with the clarity and tone,Thinking ahead to my summer holidays, I decided some audio books would be good. I downloaded a few favourite classics from my laptop, and then investigated podcasts from the BBC. Again, very easy to find my way around and get what I wanted.Truly a wonderful little toy.However, the one downside - the headphones. I have still given the product 5 stars, because I think the shape of my ears is at fault, not the actual product. I bought the Clip Jam as it appeared to be the most similar to the Clip +, which finally packed up after 7 years although it still works as a USB drive. After charging the Clip Jam up, I simply connected both units to my PC, transferred the contents of the internal memory from one to the other, removed the 32GB SD card and inserted it in the new one. Whereas, however, I had one list of music from all sources to scroll through on the Clip +, on the Clip Jam I have one list for the internal memory - "Music", and one for external memory - "SD card". Some albums, inexplicably, are not on either list, but can be found under "Folders". The folders are not even in alphabetical order!So, to play a particular album, I have to know which of 3 places it is located on, and if it's in Folders keep scrolling until I see the artist come up. I would have hoped that Sandisk would have used their experience with the Clip + to iron out any problems with the firmware, but sadly not.On the plus side, this is an inexpensive player with good sound - on decent headphones - and good battery life. I'm just disappointed that Sandisk have regressed instead of progressed with regard to the interface.

This is a replacement for a Sansa Clip that I bought many years ago after the battery finally gave up. This new one has a slightly different menu structure but otherwise is much the same. It's tiny, the battery lasts for about 18 hours, and the sound is really good, though I use it mainly for talking books. This new version will even play Audible books which is useful. The sleep timer is great (takes a bit of finding in the menu) and the built-in FM radio is better than my first one. It's a pity the charger is Micro-USB and not USB-C but it's not a deal breaker as the cable is included. The only other possible negative is the menu structure which takes a bit of getting used to but it's fairly easy once you've got the hang of it. All in all, I'd definitely recommend it!

I have owned several Sansa / Sandisk mp3 players, of various designs, over the course of more than ten years. The Clip is (or perhaps was) the best one they do, and has had several broadly similar iterations, all of which have their little flaws, but which generally speaking are durable, easy-to-use, and excellent value. With this one, rather than updating the previous version, they appear to have rebuilt the entire system from the ground up, and it is, it breaks my heart to say, awful.The various weird and annoying things about it I've noticed are:- Audio - particularly if it's in .mp3 format - will often slow down momentarily, creating a stuttering effect kind of like you hear in a lot of 90s dance music. This sounds very cool if used intentionally in music, but it's very, very annoying when it's unwanted. Previous Sansa clips I've owned have occasionally done this (again, it's generally the .mp3 files that are effected), but this one does it frequently.- Low sound volume overall - you can circumvent this by turning the EQ bars up.- When you turn it on, the volume always resets to a low level so you basically can't hear it if you're not in a silent environment. When you turn it up, it always comes up with a warning and then asks 'Keep volume at current level?' My answer is 'no, I want to listen at a louder volume', which the machine takes to mean 'no, I will continue listening at this inaudible volume'. What it wants you to say is 'yes, I want to listen at this level or higher', which just doesn't make sense... this is a weird complaint to make but I want to listen to music, not get tangled up in word games- it's very picky about file formats. .wma files (which is the standard format if you rip a CD onto Windows Media Player) sometimes work, but sometimes don't. I took the SD card out of my old Sansa clip and put it in this one and found a lot of the albums I own on CD wouldn't play. A message comes up saying 'file format not supported!' I tried deleting them from the card and syncing the songs onto the built-in memory instead, but it makes no difference. Weirdly, CDs I've ripped onto Windows Media Player more recently work fine, despite also being in the .wma file format (which is supposedly 'not supported!'). It's only CDs I ripped more than a couple of years ago that are effected- it creates short gaps between the songs. Obviously, there's usually gaps between tracks on an album, but if you're listening to an album where tracks fade into one another or are directly connected (for instance RAD's masterful Loud and Fast), a brief silence will split these tracks apart- the music library is split between what's on the built-in memory, and what's on the SD card - previous Sansa clips I've owned have just had one music library, with the music on the built-in memory and SD card all in one place- the lock function is fiddly - unlike previous Sansa clips, this one unlocks in my pocket accidentally. And if you don't hold the button for long enough, you have to wait for the message that says 'press and hold to lock / unlock' to go away so you can press it again. this sounds minor but it's caught me out many times.These are the problems I've personally noticed. I would love it if this worked well, but it really doesn't. Sansa / Sandisk is pretty much the only brand I've ever felt a loyalty to and I feel incredibly let down.

In short, if you need a cheap player that can hold 30GB+ for the gym then this is the thing for you.Highlights:- The FM radio is truly wonderful. It even has presets to store favourite stations.- Expansive range of settings, screen brightness, sleep mode, what appears on the menu...- Plays music at a loud volume, for when you have it connected to speakers (unlike the iPod shuffle)- Clip is strong- Tiny, but still heavy enough to notice when it you drop it (unlike iPod shuffle, nano)- Boots rapidly, and turns off just as quickly too- Plays many different formats, including ogg- Approx 35GB of total space when paired with a 32GB microsd card.- Not reliant on iTunes, just connect to your PC and use file explorer to move songsNegatives to be aware of:- The user interface is functional, but has it's quirks. It's not obvious what the home button does in different menus (it varies)- There is no lock switch, so you may find yourself accidentally switching songs whilst jogging- Battery life is a bit meh, especially when using the radio- You cannot make new playlists on the device, you have to create the playlist in a special format on your PC and transfer it across. Cumbersome.

Great sound. Follow instructions to remove volume limit.This is still working more than a year later. I was lost after they stopped making the mini ipods. Thank you!

I sweat a lot during running, even my ear canals are full of sweat. any battery powered ear phones will malfunction after a few months.so I have no choice but to stick to non-powered wired earphones. which means I have no use for bluetooth. this sandisk player is non-bluetooth which is fine for meonly misgiving is that it is so small that sometimes when I press the button to skip track, I end up pressing some other buttons. small irritancyI also have it's slightly bigger, more expensive bluetooth version which is perfect. never have issues with buttons

Mit dem Clip Jam MP3 Player bin ich sehr zufrieden. Ich habe schon viele MP3 Abspieler gehabt und dieser entspricht endlich einmal genau meinen Wünschen. Ich höre Musik und auch Hörbücher beim Hundespaziergang darüber. Beides ist nebeneinander auf dem Player aufgespielt.Wenn man die vorgegeben Ordner für die Dateien benutzt, dann kann man bei Musik Shuffle einstellen, was keine Auswirkung auf die Hörbücher hat, die ja der Reihe nach abgespielt werden müssen. Das finde ich genial, auch das beleuchtete Display.Die Musik organisiere ich über Winamp. Playlisten die in Winamp angelegt wurden werden auch so übernommen. Und die Synchronisation derselben funktioniert einwandfrei. Man kann aber auch seine gesamte aufgespielte Musiksammlung mit einem Klick als Shuffle abspielen lassen.Für jemand der kein Smartphone hat, wie ich und doch unterwegs Beschallung wünscht, kann ich ihn nur empfehlen.Einziges Manko, aber das ist für mich vernachlässigbar, so richtig krachen lassen kann man es mit diesem Abspieler nicht, auch die höchste Lautstärkeeinstellung gibt das nicht her.

I like this little MP3 player for listening to audiobooks when I take my daily walks. You can load Audible audiobooks on the player through an app. The buttons are a bit sensitive. In the winter, when it was under layers of clothing, I accidently shut it down a few times when climbing over snowbanks. I am currently waiting for a silicone cover which will hopefully make the buttons a little less sensitive. Wired headphones are needed which is fine with me but I expect may be a deal breaker for some. The sound quality is very good.
