We really, really enjoyed Downton Abbey.

This has kept me up for nights on end! Never got to see it on tv when it was on and in a way I am glad I've waited as I can watch as many episodes back to back as I can stay awake for now. Amazing series in every aspect. You feel like you are there 100 years ago!

I didn't watch any of Downton Abbey when it was on TV as I thought it wasn't 'my thing' and I knew I'd have trouble trying to get my husband to watch it. How wrong I was!! Someone gave me the first series as a gift and so one afternoon when I was at a loose end, I reluctantly decided to give it a go, and the rest, as they say is history. Both me and the hubby were hooked. I bought series 2 and the Christmas special but then saw the complete set on Amazon and bought that to save me from buying them individually. We're now watching them at our leisure! This set isn't quite complete as it doesn't include the final Christmas special, but, I think it hadn't been aired when the box set became available. Well worth getting this set though, I would highly recommend it, even if you did watch on TV, it would be a treat to watch the whole lot again!!

I watched Downton from the very beginning many years ago and loved every episode. I have since watched repeats on tv but when they come to an end (if they ever do) I'll have this box set to fall back on. I never tire of watching Downton, it's an absolute masterpiece of writing by Julian Fellows and a perfect cast for all the characters.

イギリス人同僚に面白いからと勧められて購入． イングランドの貴族の生活と使用人のそれ，また20世紀初めからの戦争やアイルランドとの関係を含めたさまざまな社会の変化とともに様々な階級の愛憎劇が描かれ興味深いことこの上ない．もうすぐ見終わるが見終わってしまうのが惜しいぐらい．その後のために後日談のDVDも購入した． イングランド貴族や執事等の上層使用人の話す立派な英語と，そこに合衆国ニューイングランドから嫁いだ奥様の穏やかなアメリカ英語，下層使用人の話すヨークシャーのなまった英語の差異もとても面白い．下層使用人が勉強してどんどん立派な英語に変わっていくのも観察できる．訳語ではよくわからないbutler, valet, footman, lady's maid 等々の使用人の上下関係と役割分担も，恥ずかしながらこの年ではじめてわかった．工夫すれば英文科の授業にも使えるかも．

Schon nach der 2.Folge war es um mich geschehen und ich konnte nicht mehr aufhören die Serie zu gucken. Suchtgefahr im positiven Sinne! Wahnsinnig gut besetztes Cast, mit wundervollen, hochkarätigen Schauspielern, wie Dame Maggie Smith. Highclere Castle als Downton Abbey eine perfekte Wahl. Auch die Umsetzung der Zeit, der 20er Jahre, mit Kleidung, Musik, den Autos, technischen Erfindungen, Zeitgeschehen oder aber auch der Darstellung der Klassenunterschiede, einfach nur top! Mir hat die Serie sehr viel Spaß gemacht! Definitiv nicht das letzte Mal, dass ich sie mir angeschaut habe!

An amazing series we regret waiting so long to watch. The per-season cases arrived secured to each other, and with the discs so far in flawless condition. I haven't seen any smudges, scratches, or even dust on the discs, which is impressive. We've watched through season four already and have since added The Motion Picture and A New Era (both in UHD) to the collection. I don't know if the series will ever get the UHD treatment, but I will buy it again if it does. Season one is in 30 fps, while seasons two through six are in 24 fps. I wish there was 5.1 audio (I wouldn't expect 7.1 or Atmos for a show in the early 2010s), but the entire series comes in DTS-HD Stereo. It's not terrible, but we'd love to immerse ourselves in the environment more by hearing the horseless carriages and other ambient noises travelling around the speakers. My wife likes to binge shows more than I do, but this is a very easy show to watch all day without getting tired of it. We're considering finishing everything up this week so we can watch The Grand Finale in theaters.
