Great game despite its flaws
I have really enjoyed playing the game, the graphics are stunning and the races are fun and sometimes challenging. Despite the drawbacks I would definitely recommend buying it, for both NFS fans and for anyone who hasn't played the games before.ProsThe first thing you'll notice about the game is the stunning visuals. All the cars look incredible and the customization is really good, although some of the super cars have a lack of new visual upgrades which is a bit annoying. I love the fact that you can upload your own car designs and use other peoples for your own car, it means you can have an amazing looking car with very little effort as well as putting the time in and making a car exactly how you want it.The gameplay is good and the cars handle quite nicely. You can alter your car to drift mode or extreme grip, and anywhere in between. I personally found that the grippy setting meant a lot of understeer and so I have played solely on full drift mode which is really fun and is still manageable in non drift races. There is a great selection of cars from the Honda Civic to the Lamborghini Aventador. The only drawback is that there are only 5 car slots so you often have to sell a car to make room for a new car.ConsThe most annoying and pointless feature of the game is that you always have to be connected to the internet to play the game. If you are part way through a race and you lose connection you lose all your progress in the race. Even if you have a solid internet connection the online only feature can be annoying. When you put your PS4 on rest mode and then turn it back on you cannot pick up where you left off, it says connection lost and you have to load the game all over again.Another bad aspect of the game is the acting, it is very cheesy and doesn't add a lot to the game at all. It can also be distracting when the characters call you mid way through a race! Finally, there are only 5 car slots so you often have to sell a car to make room for a new car.

First of all the game is really fun, on the first day I couldn't turn off ...
I am a big fan of need for speed Underground, and I have been waiting several years to play this. I have read many unfair reviews for this game so I decided to review it. It requires a stable internet connection to be played, but this cannot be considered a problem, who doesn't have one? Nowadays a fast and stable internet connection is more important than water! And what if there is a blackout? (I am serious it happened on my first day with Need for Speed) Do we blame EA and Ghost games because they didn't provide us a backup battery for ps4? First of all the game is really fun, on the first day I couldn't turn off my ps4 for 8 hours. The game looks stunning, the night setting and the water effects really manage to put you in a street racing context. The frame rate is usually smooth, but it drops when there are a lot of cars. Finally cut scenes are back and I personally love them, but who is looking for a story will be probably disappointed. The characters are there as a sort of virtual friends, and I found this cool because the game feels alive.Car customisation is finally back and tuning a 90's Japanese car on next generation is just amazing. You can do whatever you want in terms of paint and decals, but there are some limitation on car body tuning. The driving feel of this NFS has been subject of criticism. I think that it drives very well if you get used to it and it is surprisingly realistic to me, not as realistic as GT or Project cars, but it is not easy and forgiving as previous nfs or Drive Club either. The cons of this game are the absence of manual transmission and wheel support, and I hope they will add them with a patch.Sure this game is not perfect, but I really wanted to say that Ghost games did a great job and deserve to sell this game because I want that future NFS will be about tuning and street racing. If they add more realistic physics and wheel support I will be the happiest man in the world.

The game itself is visually beautiful. Perhaps not quite in the Gran Turismo or ...
Game reviews are always difficult as they are a very personal thing so please take the below as my personal thoughts. Hopefully it may be of use to some. The game itself is visually beautiful. Perhaps not quite in the Gran Turismo or Forza league but certainly worthwhile if, like me, you appreciate detailed graphics. The game has a rather in depth story which is interesting to begin with but as the game progresses can get a little tedious. Unfortunately it is a requirement so you must endure it to continue to progress. When you actually get into the gameplay you will discover it is a very typical NFS game. The handling dynamic is a cross between realism and arcade but, in my opinion, it is too focused in the arcade style. Presumably the idea is that anyone can pick it up and run with it however it doesn't give a seasoned racer the confidence or sense of success you get from wrestling a powerful car on track. The selection of cars is ok, nothing more, nothing less. There are some cars you wont see anywhere else such as the Volvo but there are considerably less to choose from than many other racers. When the game launched you could only hold a maximum of 5 cars which was a huge let down but this has now been expanded to 10. That still seems shy as the game awards you the occasional "unicorn" car in game which means using one of your spaces. However my biggest gripe with the cars is that the modifications are much more limited than I had expected. I fondly remember NFS Underground and the customisation in that game was immense. The reboot promises much but delivers little in this area.My final complaint with the game is the races itself. NFS has always used the "rubber band" method of racing. I.e if you crash and end up miles behind at the back, you are allowed to catch up as the other cars are artificially slowed down to allow you the fun of racing. This is fine in itself but is a huge frustration when you are leading. You may have lead a race from start to finish and been pulling out a commanding lead only to find that two or three corners from the end the AI cars suddenly realise they have an afterburner they can activate and reel you in. This may sound dramatic but it has been a massive irritation for me. If I work hard enough and prove to be fast enough to win a race I shouldn't be artificially caught up by AI cars.My final statement is that this is an OK game. Given the choice again I am not sure if I would buy it again but I don't regret owning it hence the 3 stars
