Writer/artist Frank Miller completely reinvents the legend of Batman in this saga of a near-future Gotham City gone to rot, 10 years after the Dark Knight's retirement. Forced to take action, the Dark Knight returns in a blaze of fury, taking on a whole new generation of criminals and matching their level of violence. He is soon joined by a new Robin--a girl named Carrie Kelley, who proves to be just as invaluable as her predecessors. Can Batman and Robin deal with the threat posed by their deadliest enemies, after years of incarceration have turned them into perfect psychopaths? And more important, can anyone survive the coming fallout from an undeclared war between the superpowers--or the clash of what were once the world's greatest heroes? Hailed as a comics masterpiece, The Dark Knight Returns is Frank Miller's ( 300 and Sin City ) reinvention of Gotham's legendary protector. It remains one of the most influential stories ever told in comics, with its echoes felt in all media forms of DC's storytelling. Collects issues #1-4. Review: A bold, brooding reinvention of a legend - The Dark Knight Returns isn’t just a graphic novel, it’s a seismic shift in how superhero stories are told. Frank Miller’s vision is gritty, unapologetic, and deeply introspective, offering a version of Batman that’s older, angrier, and more human than ever before. The storytelling is layered and cinematic, with a pace that grips you from the first panel and never lets go. The artwork is raw and stylized, perfectly matching the dystopian tone of the narrative. It’s not about polish, it’s about impact. Every frame feels deliberate, every shadow meaningful. The use of media snippets and fragmented dialogue adds a unique texture that makes the world feel lived-in and chaotic. This volume helped redefine what comics could be: not just entertainment, but commentary, character study, and myth-making. Whether you're a lifelong Batman fan or new to the genre, The Dark Knight Returns is essential reading - powerful, provocative, and unforgettable. Review: Son really enjoyed it - Bought this for my son's 19th birthday. He said it was really good and he enjoyed reading it. He's never had much love for 'book books' so was happy when he mentioned about this one and then pleased to hear it had been a worthwhile buy.

Been years since I have read this classic comic and it still does not disappoint 40 years later!!! No wonder movies are based on this.

A legendary comic story, but not perfect.
This is the second time I read this graphic novel (the first following shortly after the two part animated movies, which inspired me to get it in the first place), and immediately from the off you can totally understand why this is held to such high esteem. In many ways it encapsulates the character of Bruce Wayne and Batman, and what makes him who he is. It is a story which at times is poetic, other times amusing. It's when it's dealing with the deepest of themes when this novel truly sings. It is a bleak world, and it truly is Batman at its best. If I had to give a tiny criticism, the art does look a little dated compared to the art of today. However, this novel is quite old, so that can be forgiven. The story will remain forever timeless.

One of the best Batman stories ever written
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns is one of the best Batman stories ever written. It was written and penciled by the legendary Frank Miller. First published in 1986 it was one of the first stories to show an older Batman in a dystopian version of Gotham. He comes out of retirement, and kicks ass. It is moody, dark, has some iconic scenes and dialog, and re-reading it is always a joy. It just hits the mark, and scores a perfect 10 for The Dark Knight. Also Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns was obviously the inspiration for some of the Zack Snyder's Snyderverse. Come and read The Dark Knight Returns, an original Batman story which is better than any movie ever could be.

Great as a stand alone or follow up to Year One
Brilliant story, great to read even as a stand alone. Artwork showing its age, but still very good

The finest comic book I’ve read.
I never thought a single page in a comic book would bring a tear to my eye! An epic tale, beautifully rendered in the greatest of storytelling traditions.

Comprato come regalo per un appassionato di Batman. È stato molto apprezzato. La copertina è morbida e i disegni molto belli. La storia molto bella è stata l'ispirazione per il film Batman. Vs Superman. Non può mancare per gli appassionati di Batman.

THE GREATEST COMOC BOOK OF ALL TIME TDKR BY MILLER IS AN ABOSULUTE MASTERPIECE WITH AMAZING ARTWORK AND A BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED STORYLINE WITH INSANE PSYCHOLOGICAL , PHILOSOPHICAL, AND REALISTIC DEPTH AND FUN FACT:- This book gets WAY better during a reread...

Classic.
This is one of the classic Batman stories, and one of the books that changed superhero stories in general. A must read for any comic fan interested in the artform. Pretty sure this print has a typo in the introduction as I've never heard of a Dick Spring... Dick SPRANG on the other hand is a phenomenal artist.
